Week Commencing 1st March 2010             One result card received this week concerns a win for Buttsbury "C" over Hutton "D" to the tune of 8 - 2 - Frances Hutt and Alan Tofts were unbeaten with Bill Nutbrown winning twice - his defeat coming at the hands of Steve Murdock who then combined with Joe Bee to pick up a second point in a doubles victory in five - Tony ASdams being Hutton's third player and along with Bee unable to add any points to the total.

Week Commencing 22nd February 2010          Brentwood Hard regained second place with a hard fought 7 - 3 away win at close rivals Mountnessing "C" and had John Barns to thank for an excellent treble including a last gasp five end win in the final singles over luckless John Newman who was pointless in the match, Adam Bishop won twice and Nick Wright once but both had to give best to Len Jupe who just edged out Wright 11/9 in the fifth end of their game.  Mountnessing's third player Paul Singleton collected one point and likewise just failed to get the better of Bishop in five also losing 9/11 in the fifth.     Brentwood "C" went down 4 - 6 to their visitors Hutton "C" who fielded the unbeaten Richard Hayhoe alongside Mike Newman and Ron Milbourn - Newman picking up two wins with Millbourn pointless against the home teams John Benson (two wins), Mike Hooks (1 win) and Graham Harris (1 win).

Week Commencing 15th February 2010            Two 10 - 0 wins in the Division - the first for Hutton "B" away at Brentwood "D" with Roy Barnes, Mike Pratley and Norman Feakins all undefeated against Jon White, Declan Pay and Graham Mann - only one game White against Feakins went to a fifth end and only one taken to a fourth end so a miserable evening for the home side.  A slightly changed Brentwood "D" team of Richard Denton, Jon White and Graham Hooks travelled to Mountnessing "C" and again found themselves under the hammer with Len Jupe, John Newman and Joan Donovan  on top form and winning the contest 10 - 0 - two five ends White against Jupe and Denton against Newman saw the visitors leading at one stage but in the fifth end were unable to collect the winning points.     Hutton "D" picked up five points in a 5 - 5 draw against visitors Writtle "B" - mainly due to an unbeaten performance from Voltaire Salvador - beating Martin Goddard and Kevin Barber in four and Anne Lockhart in five - Steve Murdoch contributed one point with a win over Lockhart in five but losing to Barber in five - Joe Bee took Barber to five but that game apart was generally unable to put his other two opponents under pressure.   The same three Hutton "D" players Voltaire Salvadore, Steve Murdoch and Joe Bee faced their club colleagues Hutton "C" and found the hosts Richard Hayhoe, Mike Newman and Wally Sale in no mood to concede points easily with Hutton "C" running out 8 - 2 winners.  Salvadore was out of touch and out of luck and pointless while Murdoch took all three of his opponents to five ends - defeating  Sale as did Bee who also won in five ends.    Brentwood "C" faced successive Hutton teams - the first came against Hutton "C" away at the Parish Hall where they lost 2 - 8 to Richard Hayhoe (undefeated), Wally Sale and Mike Newman two wins each - the visitors duo of Richard Denton and Mike Hooks were pointless but it was left to John Benson to salvage some respect with wins over both Sale and Newman.  Their next fixture was at home to Hutton "B" which ended in a 7 - 3 away win for Hutton - Graham Harris collected one win defeating Norman Feakins in five but the win of the match came with John Benson defeating Mike Pratley and thus inflicting the first defeat of the season on Pratley - the third Brentwood player Chris Hills was unable to score but Roy Barnes was undefeated, Mike Pratley with two wins and Norman Feakins with one win plus a doubles point for Barnes/Pratley over Benson/Harris.

Week Commencing 8th February 2010              High flying Brentwood Hard collected a 7 - 3 home win over Hutton "C" and had Greg Cooper unbeaten - given a tough match against the visitors Richard Hayhoe in five 11/3, 11/7, 7/11, 4/11, 11/7 - John Barns supported with two wins, in five over Mike Newman (1 win) and in three over Ron Milbourn who was unable to score in the match, Hayhoe picked up two points with a five end win over Barns and in four over Adam Bishop who lost in five to Newman but defeated Milbourn.     Kevin Barber and Martin Goddard were undefeated in their away match with Buttsbury "C" with Anne Lockhart winning twice but losing to Bill Nutbrown in a match which saw the visitors win 9 - 1 - Buttsbury's other two players being Peter James and Alan Tofts - none of the games came near to a fifth end although many were completed in four.

Week Commencing 1st February 2010         Hutton "B" regained top spot with a 6 - 4 home win over their Hutton "C" colleagues - Mike Pratley and Roy Barnes gave their usual polished performance with both players unbeaten - Pratley pushed all the way to a fifth end by Wally Sale - Ron Grief was the home sides third player and unable to score which allowed Sale, Mike Newman and Richard Hayhoe to pick up a point each  - Newman and Hayhoe went on to win the doubles point against Pratley and Barnes combination.    Hutton "D" have been steadily making progress and their last three matches resulted in two victories and a draw  - away against Brentwood "D" their team of Voltaire Salvador (unbeaten), Steve Murdoch (2 wins) and Tony Adams collected a 6 - 4 away win over Jon White (2 wins), Graham Mann (1 win) and Declan Pay (1 win) - the vital doubles point went to the visitors for their sixth point and victory.  White had a terrific battle with Murdoch in the final singles and just managed to cross the line in five 11/9, 9/11, 11/5, 2/11, 12/10 - Pay also forced Murdoch to a fifth end and at one stage held a 2 - 1 lead but lost the fourth and fifth ends.   The drawn match for Hutton "D" was a home "derby" against Hutton "B" and in this encounter Steve Murdoch and Voltaire Salvador each won twice with Joe Bee collecting one point with a walk over against Tony Barber who was forced to retire after his first singles. Roy Barnes for the "B" team was rarely troubled and was unbeaten  winning his games in three - Norman Feakins notched up one win and the doubles point went to the visitors for a creditable 5 - 5 draw.     Yet another game that featured Hutton "D" saw them pick up a 7 - 3 away win at Mountnessing "C" with Voltaire Salvador leading the way yet again with another unbeaten performance - pushed all the way to five ends by Bruno Handel and Len Jupe - Steve Murdoch picked up two wins but was denied his maximum by Handel who won in three - surprisingly Handel losing in three to Joe Bee who in turn lost to both Jupe and Suzanne Shaw

Week Commencing 25th January 2010      Brentwood Hard took over top spot with Hutton "B" not playing and the tennis club collected 14 points in their two matches.  Away to Writtle "A" the home side consisted of Anne Lockhart (unbeaten), Martin Goddard and Kevin Barber (1 win) with Writtle winning the match 6 - 4 against Greg Cooper (2 wins), Nick Wright (1 win) and Adam Bishop - the one point for Wright coming in a five end win over Barber with Wright also losing a five end battle with Goddard despite taking the first two ends. Bishop also a shade unlucky against Lockhart  as he also had a lead 2 - 1 but also lost in five.       Brentwood Hard then entertained a two player Buttsbury "C" team and collected a handsome 10 - 0 win thanks to Greg Cooper, John Barns and Adam Bishop - Peter James and Frances Hutt pushing Bishop all the way to five ends but failing at the final tie - James also picked up ends against his other two opponents.   Mountnessing "C" had Joan Donovan to thank for remaining unbeaten in their home fixture with Writtle "B" with Paul Singleton winninjg twice and John Newman once - for the visitors Martin Goddard claimed two wins with Anne Lockhart defeating Newman for her one win - Wendy Hibbitt was Writtle's third player and failed to score but joined Lockhart in the doubles against Donovan and Singleton and just failed to claim another point in a five end defeat.

Week Commencing 18th January 2010         A 6 - 4 home win for two player Hutton "C" over Mountnessing "C" in which Mike Newman was undefeated and Wally Sale winning twice over Len Jupe who defeated Sale and Suzanne Shaw and Paul Singleton who were both unable to score.  John Benson of Brentwood "C" posted two unbeaten performances in his latest two matches both of which his side won - at home to Brentwood Hard "A" Benson was supported by Jon White who won twice  and the pair combined to take the valuable doubles point Frank Porter failing to register for Brentwood - for the tennis club John Barns won twice, Nick Wright and Len Nicholas one win each with none of the ten games reaching a fifth and final end.  In his next match away to Buttsbury "C"  - Benson completed an easy treble over Bill Nutbrown, Peter James and Frances Hutt - James defeating Chris Hills (2 win) for his one point and Hutt getting the better of Jon White (2 wins) for his single point contribution - Brentwood "C" completing an easy win 7 - 3 away at Buttsbury "C"

Week Commencing 4th January 2010            Only one result card received in time for publication this week which resulted in an 8 - 2 away win for leaders Hutton "B" against Writtle "B" -  two 100% unbeaten players Roy Barnes and Mike Pratley continued on their winning ways again with the home trio of Anne Lockhart, Kevin Barber and Martin Goddard unable to halt their progress - Lockhart and Goddard did however manage to defeat Hutton's third player Ron Grief but Hutton's lead at the top now looks unassailable.

Week Commencing 14th December    Writtle "B" climbed the table with a 7 - 3 away win at Brentwood "C" and owed much to the unbeaten performance of Andy Fox who also combined with Kevin Barber to take the doubles - Barber winning two singles and Wendy Hibbitt one. For the home side John Benson won twice and denied Barber his maximum 11/5, 9/11, 11/4, 10/12, 121/10 - all three of the visitors defeated the luckless Graham Harris  while Chris Hills picked up a solitary point with a win over Hibbitt.

Week Commencing 7th December           Alan Tofts had two matches to remember in the space of a week - the first away to Brentwood "D" saw his team Buttsbury "C" collect a 7 - 3 away win with Tofts unbeaten and supported by Peter James with two wins and Bill Nutbrown with one win - Jon White picked up two wins for Brentwood with Mike Hooks defeating Nutbrown for the home side's third point - Graham Mann claiming ends off his three opponents but failing to score.   The following match saw Buttsbury "C" maintain their winning streak with a 6 - 4 home win over Hutton "C" thanks again to Alan Tofts who was unbeaten - Bill Nutbrown won twice and Peter James supported with one win - for the visitors Richard Hayhoe was surprisingly out of touch and picked up one point - beating James - Mike Newman scored twice with Ron Millbourn out of luck.      Brentwood Hard kept up the chase for the top with a 6 - 4 home win over Hutton "D" and had John Barns unbeaten and winning his games comfortably - Adam Bishop gained two wins with Len Nicholas taking one point - for the visitors Voltare Salvador picked up two wins Steve Murdoch one win over Nicholas and their third player Joe Bee out of the points.

Week Commencing 30th November              Mountnessing "C" courtesy of John Newman, Paul Singleton and Joan Donovan collected a welcome 10 - 0 home win over Brentwood "C" - none of the ties went to a fifth end with Declan Pay, Graham Harris and Chris Hills on the receiving end.      Brentwood "C" had, a week earlier, beaten Hutton "D"  7 - 3 in a match which saw all hopes of a maximum from any player cancelled out - the first tie of the match saw Graham Harris recover from losing the first two ends to just conquer Voltair Salvador 5/11, 4/11, 11/4, 12/10, 12/10 but Steve Murdoch then denied Harris his maximum in the last singles of the match - Murdoch having been denied his by John Benson in three - Benson then lost to Salvador in three but at 11/13, 11/13, 12/14 it could have gone either way.  Chris Hills was also denied his treble by Murdoch also in five.

Week Commencing 23rd November             Hutton "B" did their title chances no harm at all when winning 8 - 2 away at Mountnessing "C" - predictably Roy Barnes and Mike Pratley were on top form and unbeaten and rarely troubled against Suzanne Shaw, Bruno Handel and Len Jupe - Tony Barber was Hutton's third player and picked up one point with a win over Shaw but he was unable to get the better of his other two opponents.        Hutton "C" found their visitors Writtle "B" in good form and went under 4 - 6 to their visitors - Richard Hayhoe defeated Anne Lockhart (1 win), Martin Goddard (2 wins) and Wendy Hibbitt (2 wins) - Mike Newman beating Lockhart and Joan Cook failing to score   Hayhoe versus Hibbitt was the best match of the evening with Wendy just failing 11/7, 12/10, 3/11, 9/11, 13/15.        Brentwood Hard entertained Brentwood "D" and were 7 - 3 winners in a match which saw Greg Cooper pick up yet another maximum although being pushed all the way to five ends by Mike Hooks who picked up two wins - Adam Bishop won twice with Len Nicholas gaining a five end win over Frank Porter - Nicholas in turn being beaten by Graham Mann for his single win.        Hutton "D" with Steve Murdoch and Voltar Salvador winning two each were just  undone by the wiles of the Buttsbury "C"' Lawrie Tunbridge who was undefeated, Bill Nutbrown and Peter James were winners over Tony Adams who failed to score in a 4 - 6 defeat for the home side.

Week Commencing 16th November                Two local derby's feature this week - Hutton "D" collected a fine 8 - 2 win over their Hutton "C" team and had Voltar Salvador unbeaten, Steve Murdoch and Joe Bee winning two each - Bee being puched to defeat Ron Millbopurn in five 10/12, 11/8, 11/9, 8/11, 12/10 and then Joan Cook 6/11, 11/9, 14/12, 8/11, 11/7 - unfortunately for the "C" team both Millbourn and Cook were unable to score any points which fell to Richard Hayhoe to claim two points for the visiting "C" team.    Writtle "B" gained a 9 - 1 home win over Brentwood "D" with Anne Lockhart and Martin Goddard unbeaten and Kevin Barber winning twice - his defeat coming at the hands of Declan Pay who put up stiff opposition against all three of his opponents - Jon White and Graham Mann unable to score.     The Brentwood "D" team followed up this loss with another one at home to their Brentwood "C" team - Jon White recorded two wins - John Benson (2 wins) being his conqueror who in turn was beaten by Declan Pay (1 win) - Richard Denton also got on the scoresheet for the "D" team with a five end win over Chris Hills - the "C" teams third player being Graham Harris who pullede off wins over Denton and Pay - the "C" team combination of Hills/Benson lifting the doubles point over White/Pay - final score 6 - 4 to Brentwood "C".

Week Commencing 9th November             Writtle "B" collected a welcome 7 - 3 home win over Hutton "D" with all three of the home players collecting two wins - Kevin Barber, Wendy Hibbitt and Martin Goddard all unable to get the better of Hutton's Voltar Salvador who came through some difficult games unbeaten - his sternest test came in five against Hibbitt - Joe Bee collected ends but like Tony Adams was unable to score.                     Brentwood "B" did themselves no harm at home to Mountnessing "C" and collected a satisfactory 8 - 2 win with John Barns unbeaten and well supported by both Adam Bishop and Greg Cooper who both won twice - Joan Donovan playing exceptionally well to defeat the duo - her only loss coming in five to Barns 9/11, 11/7, 6/11, 11/3, 11/13.                Buttsbury "C" could only field two players in their home match with high flying Hutton "B" with Alan Tofts and Peter James unable to match their opponents and going down 10 - 0 to Roy Barnes, Mike Pratley and Tony Barber - an early night with only one singles and a doubles going to four ends - the Barnes and Pratley duo also being unbeaten a week ealier against Brentwood "D" at the Parish Hall - Norman Feakins weighed in with two wins losing the only game of the night to Mike Hooks in a 9 - 1 defeat for the visitors - Richard Denton and Graham Mann being Brentwood's other two players

Week Commencing 26th October          With leaders Mountnessing "C" not playing it was left to the second and third placed teams to make progress - Hutton "B"  are in second place following a 6 - 4 home win over Brentwood "C" - Mike Pratley was easily the best player on view - unbeaten and winning his games in three ends - Tony Barber supported with a five end win over Mike Hooks but losing a similar five end tie against Chris Hills -  Hutton's third player Ron Grief also winning once - his point coming in a five end defeat of Chris Hills - John Benson wqas the chief pointscorter for Brentwood with two wins but the home side claimed the doubles and thus a 6 - 4 victory.            A re-arranged match for Brentwood Hard at home to Writtle "B" saw the two sides battle out a 5 - 5 draw - Greg Cooper maintainede the form he has been showing all season and was unbeaten needing four ends to defeat both Anne Lockhart and Kevin Barber and five ends against Martin Goddard - John Barns picked up one point with a win over Lockhart and all credit must go to the pointless Adam Bishop - surely unlucky to lose all three of his games in five ends 8/11 against Lockhart, 8/11 against Barber and 7/11 against Goddard.  Brentwood Hard hold on to a clear third place just two points behing Hutton "B" on equal games.

Week Commencing 19th October     Mountnessing "C" hang on to top spot despite dropping points in their away match against Brentwood "D" - the home side could field only two players in Jon White who was undefeated and Mike Hooks who collected two wins - losing to Joan Donovan in a somewhat bizarre encounter 0/11, 15/17, 4/11 - Donovan also falling in the fifth end to White - both Suzanne Shaw and Paul Singleton were unable to put any points on the board but the doubles win for Mountnessing prevented Brentwood from claiming a win. Another team unable to field a full side was Buttsbury "C" who went down 2 - 8 at home to Brentwood Hard - Peter James was unable to score but Alan Tofts was responsible for Buttsbury's two points defeating John Barns and Adam Bishop who each recorded two points - Greg Cooper was the visitors third player and unbeaten.     Hutton "C" entertained their Hutton "B" club mates with the "B" team coming out on top 8 - 2.  Richard Hayhoe won the two points for the "C" team with wins over Norman Feakins and Ron Grief but Roy Barnes was not to be denied his maximum - in the final singles he edged over the finishing line against Hayhoe in five.      Hutton "D" courtesy of Steve Murdoch (unbeaten), Voltar Salvador (unbeaten) and Tony Adams (1 win) picked up an 8 - 2 victory over Brentwood "D"  - Jon White and Mike Hooks defeating Adams with their third player Graham Mann losing to Adams.

Weeks Commencing 12th October              Only one result in this week sees top of the table Mountnessing "C" held to a draw away at Writtle "B" - Paul; Singleton was instrumental in retaining their unbeaten label and remained unbeaten - five ends against Wendy Hibbitt was the nearest he came to losing his maximum - Len Jupe picked up the remaining two points but lost in four to Anne Lockhart who won two points for Writtle, Kevin Barber and Hibbitt winning one point each but Writtle collected the  doubles in five ends to ensure a draw.

Weeks Commencing 5th October                    Hutton "B" gained a 6 - 4 home win over  club colleagues Hutton "D" but had two main reasons for their success - three wins for Roy Barnes  (two ties in four ends) and also the win in the doubles which secured the vital sixth points - Mike Parsons and Ron Grief both defeated Joe Bee for the other two "B" team's points but found both Voltaire Salvador and Steve Murdoch difficult opponents - losing on both occasions although Grief did take Salvador to five ends 8/11, 11/8, 11/7, 9/11, 9/11.      In the match Brentwood "C" versus Buttsbury "C" the Divisional Secretary reversed the initial result due to Rule 6 (e) not being adhered to - consequently the result was amended to give the visitors Peter James, Davey Crook and Alan Tofts a 6 - 4 win over Chris Hills and John Benson - Jon White their third player was ineligble and his points were educted - Tofts was however undefeated - his table wins, two, plus a win for James over Hills and three points added took the score 6 - 4 in favour of the visitors.

Weeks Commencing 14th - 21st - 28th September                  Top of the table Mountnessing "C" enjoyed two recent 8 - 2 victories - at home to Hutton "C" - John Newman, Len Jupe and Bruno Handel proved far too strong for Wally Sale, Ron Millbourne and Joan Cook  - the visitors had only a five end win for Sale over Handel plus a win in the doubles to show for their efforts and in their following match - an away fixture at Hutton "D" - Len Jupe repeated his unbeaten performance - just getting home against Voltaire Salvador in five while both John Newman and Paul Singleton collected two wins each - Newman lost to Salvadore in five 11/5, 11/9, 7/11, 9/11, 10/12 with Singleton losing to Hutton's Steve Murdoch in four.      Writtle "B" enjoyed a 6 - 4 home win over Buttsbury "C" with both Anne Lockhart and Kevin Barber winning twice - Martin Goddard somewhat off form with only one win - for the visitors Peter James won against Goddard as did Alan Tofts but James also featured in two more five end struggles but lost both - Bill Nutbrown got the better of Lockhart in four  with Alan Tofts defeating both Barber and Goddard.        Brentwood Hard hover menacingly near the top of the table and picked up a 6 - 4 away win at Hutton "C" - Greg Cooper was once again their leading light with three wins - extremely hard fought against Richard Hayhoe , Adam Bishop picked up two wins over Wally Sale and Joan Cook with John Barns defeating Cook for his one point - Hutton duo Hayhoe and Sale won the doubles against Cooper and Bishop.

Week Commencing 7th September          Likely title contenders Mountnessing "C" enjoyed a 7 - 3 home win over Buttsbury "C" - Peter Hardiman was the star man for the home side with three excellent victories over Peter James, Alan Tofts (1 win) and Laurie Tunbridge (2 wins) - John Newman played fourteen ends in total - gaining a win over James but losing the other two while Len Jupe (2 wins) also had a long evening,  playing two five end matches losing to Tunbridge 14/16 in the fifth end of his last singles.    Brentwood Hard  produced two players who collected maximums in their home match with Brentwood "C" which went to the home side 7 - 3 - Greg Cooper and John Barns allso joined forces to collect a seventh point in the doubles  - all three of the visitors Chris Hills, Graham Harris and John Benson defeating Adam Bishop who looked on course for a win over Hills but fell in the final two ends.     Another team Hutton "B" with two unbeaten players in Roy Barnes and Mike Pratley  - both rarely troubled in their 8 - 2  home win over Writtle "B" of Kevin Barber, Martin Goddard and Anne L:ockhart - Goddard and Lockhart getting the better of Norman Feakins who collected one point with a win over Barber.      Brentwood "D" could only manage two singles wins and a doubles point in their 3 - 7 defeat at home to Hutton "C" - Richard Denton pulled off an excellent three end win over Richard Hayhoe (2 wins) with Graham Mann getting the better of Mike Newman (2 wins) but player of the match Wally Sale collected an excellent maximum despite being forced into five ends against White. The doubles saw a third point for Brentwood in five ends.

End of Season Summary                    Table toppers Billericay "D" took the lead in this Second Division in October and never appeared likely to be caught by the chasing pack - They lost only one game out of 22 and although only having one player in the top ten - having played in at least 50% of league matches - they do have four in the top ten who only took part in at least 33%. of league matches  Their number one player being Keith Cullen who lost four games out of 50 played for an average of 92% but Graeme Dale gained a better average by playing fewer games, losing only one game out of 23  for 96% - other Billericay "D" players to feature were Jonathan Fieldsend 19 from 22 for 86% and Alan Wood 17 from 20 for 85%.     The top player in the Division with 96% from at least 50% of league matches played is Richard Hayhoe winning 55 out of 57 played - his team finished in fifth spot, a mere 13 points short of promotion from second placed Brentwood Hard "A" whose two main players Martin Winter and Tim Mercer are always going to be in the top level of players - both this season with 88%.   Two Buttsbury teams figured in the bottom three with the "F" team being successful in only two games - but their players gained valuable experience which should give them hope for next season.        For a number of years Hutton "D" have regularly held the rest of the Division up but having recruited a new player - Voltaire Salvador and  having Steve Murdoch able to play more games they have pulled themselves away from the bottom and sit in a respectable position in the Division having won eight games.
