GO TO RESULTS - GO TO TABLES

Week Commencing 1st March 2010            BAE Selex "A" seem to have the title in their pockets having picked up two wins and 18 points in their last two fixtures - against St. Joseph's at Selex Sports Club they demolished the visitors 10 - 0 with Paul Stephens, Chris Knight and Trevor Collin too hot for Sue Hickman, Gary Carr and Robbie Burton - although both Burton and Hickman forced Collin to fight all the way for his wins by taking him to five ends - Hickman losing 9/11 in the fifth and Burton dropping a 2 - 1 lead to lose 8/11 in the final end.   Jon Stokes, Paul Stephens and Gary Hartgrove then travelled to Ramsden Heath where they played Billericay "A" of Ev Lucas, Terry Timms and Mark Martin - no heroics from the home team as both Stokes and Stephens were unbeaten  plus the doubles and Gary Hartgrove collecting one win (over Martin) but losing to both Lucas and Timms.    Billericay "C" also punished luckless St. Joseph's but in this game the visitors Robbie Burton was on the score sheet with his side's two points with wins over Ray Eldridge and John Webber - Steve Muth collected three wins with Eldridge and Webber two each.  Sue Hickman and Nicola Loughran were pointless although the last named gave Eldridge a fright by taking nthe first two ends but the visitor responded by stubbornly refusing to go under and took the final three ends to help his side to an 8 - 2 home win.    A Billericay Sports "derby" match saw the "A" team of Glen Johnson (unbeaten), Marilyn Bawden and Mike Johnston picking up a point each with wins over Malcolm Henstock in an evenly matched 5 - 5 draw - Keith Adamsand Bruce Kettle responded well to collect the remaining five points on offer taking the doubles 9/11, 11/8, 11/8, 9/11, 11/9.

Week Commencing 22nd February 2010           Making a determined effort to cash in should the leaders Selex "A" slip up are Hutton "A" who pulled off a 10 - 0 home win over Billericay "B" - the Hutton team of Steve Woodley, Hamish Innes and Keith Phillips were far too strong for John Gagg, Dave Carter and Peter Barrett with the visitors managing to take only three ends in the whole match - Woodley's return to the table giving Hutton strength in depth and although the leaders have a match in hand there are only three points separating the two teams.      BAE Selex "B" with Kevin Worthington, Trevor Collin and Gary Ward on call gained a 5 - 5 draw at home to Brentwood "A" but none of the home side could match Paul Cuming who collected yet another three wins for then visitors - Debbie Auvache defeated Collin for one point and then combined with Cuming to snatch the doubles point in a five end struggle - Auvache losing in five to both Worthington and Ward with Phil Purser unable to conjure up a point.       BAE Selex "B" were then away at Billericay "A" who fielded Ev Lucas, Mark Martin and Terry Timms - the usual away trio of Kevin Worthington, Trevor Collin and Gary Ward only able to collect 3 points in a 7 - 3 away defeat - Gary Ward was unbeaten for the visitors - taken to five by Timms after the home player took the first two ends.  The home side good value for their victory.       Billericay "C" and Billericay "B" each gained a share of the points in a 5 -5 draw which saw John Gagg in super form and picking up a maximum against Ray Eldridge (2 wins), Neil Freeman and Guy McKenzie - Dave Carter and John Parodi being the "B" teams other two players.

Week Commencing 15th February 2010             Three 5 - 5 draws, two 6 - 4 away wins and one 7 - 3 away win gives an indication of the closeness of the matches these last few days - Billericay "C" fielded Steve Muth (unbeaten), John Webber (1 win) and Neil Freeman in their home draw with Billericay Sports "B" for whom both Bruce Kettle and Andrew Murray won twice defeating Webber and Freeman and Keith Adams taking one point beating Freeman - Adams losing in five to Muth and Webber.   BAE Selex "A" held a 5 - 3 lead over Hutton "A" but then saw Keith Phillips get the better of Jon Stokes in the last singles and were themselves unable to master the visiting combination of Phillips and Hamish Innes in the doubles which ensured the visitors a share of the points.  Chris Knight was undefeated and Paul Stephens won twice with Stokes pointless against Phillips (2 wins), Django Fung (1 win) and Innes (1 win).      Herongate also saw a 5 - 3 lead slip away with the Billericay "C" trio of Steve Muth, John Webber and Ray Eldridge also taking the ninth singles and the doubles.  Steve Muth was again the star performer and undefeated against Dave Bassett (1 win), Graham Arthurton (2 wins) and Richard Jackman (2 wins) - supporting Muth was Ray Eldridge with a three end win over Bassett and John Webber pointless.   Herongate also pulled off a 6 - 4 away win at St. Joseph's despite arriving with only two players in Dave Bassett and Richard Jackman against Robbie Burton, Gary Carr and Sue Hickman - with Burton collecting the home sides one win on the table against Bassett 12/10, 11/4, 3/11, 8/11, 11/9 - Jackman undefeated winning all in three.   Billericay Sports "B" were also on the losing end of a 6 - 4 score line in their home match with BAE Selex "B" who saw Kevin Worthington unbeaten and Gary Ward and Trevor Collin winning one point each with wins over Andrew Murray - Keith Adams and Bruce Kettle collected two wins each - Adams pushed all the way to five ends by Collin and also losing in five to Worthington.  A super treble from Glen Johnson for Billericay Sports "A" in their home encounter with BAE Selex "A" - his first singles win against Paul Sayer in five ends 13/11, 6/11, 11/9, 4/11, 12/10 and in the last singles of the match in five over Paul Stephens 11/7, 11/9, 5/11, 7/11, 13/11 - in between defeating Jon Stokes in three - Keith Ashton almost added a fourth point by holding a 2 - 1 lead over Stokes but eventually lost in five.  Mike Johnston was the Sport's third player and pointless.

Week Commencing 8th February 2010             BAE Selex "B" featured in two matches recently - at home to Billericay "C" - Kevin Worthington, Gary Ward and Dave Calleja were 9 - 1 winners with the visitors picking up one point with a win for John Webber over Calleja in four - Worthington and Ward were rarely troubled by the visitors other two players Neil Freeman and Guy McKenzie in a match which saw seven of the ties completed in four ends and three in three.        A slightly different BAE Selex "B" line up of Kevin Worthington, Gary Ward and Trevor Collin then competed in an away match at Billericay Sports "B" and again ran out winners although only 6 - 4 on this occasion.  Worthington was again unbeaten although having to pull out all the stops in his first game against Keith Adams (2 wins) - who held a 2 - 1 lead before going under 11/9, 9/11, 11/8, 10/12, 8/11 - Bruce Kettle also picked up two wins - over Ward and Collin while the home sides third man Andrew Murray narrowly lost in five to Collin at 11/13 in the final end for a pointless evening.     Another tough encounter for the all ladies team of St. Joseph's away at Billericay Sports "A" - Sue Hickman, Lindsay Phelps and Nicola Loughran were up against Marilyn Bawden, Mike Johnston and Keith Ashton and were soundly beaten 10 - 0  with only three of the ties going to five ends.  Ashton involved in all three - coming from 2 - 1 down against Hickman then losing a 2 - 0 lead against Loughran and again in the doubles losing a two end lead - fortunately for the home side the fifth end was the saviour for Sports "A" in all three.   Second and third placed teams Hutton "A" and Herongate served up an excellent match which was only resolved in the doubles to give the home side Hutton "A" a 6 - 4 win.  Django Fung picked up two three end wins in his first two games against Dave Bassett  (1 win) and Richard Jackman (2 wins) but then found Peter Davis (1 win) a difficult opponent who came back from a two end deficit to win the last three ends and deny Fung his maximum.  Davis in turn being denied his treble by Keith Phillips (2 wins) and Steve Woodley (1 win) who both won in four ends - Phillips likewise losing his maximum to Jackman in five.    Billericay "B" entertained Brentwood "A" and recorded a 7 - 3 home win with all three of the home players winning twice and then picking up the doubles point - Steve Northcott, John Parodi and Peter Barrett however were all denied their maximum by Paul Cuming - Debbie Auvache  lost in five to Northcott 12/14 final end and Phil Purser lost in five to Parodi 9/11 final end. Only one game completed in three ends, three completed in five and remainder in four.   Billericay Sports "A" gained a more than useful six points in an away 6 - 4 win at Brentwood "A" where once again Paul Cuming was the leading light and undefeated with a fourth point coming for Brentwood in the doubles  - Trevor Carter and Phil Purser being scoreless against Glen Johnson, Keith Ashton and Marilyn Bawden who just made it to the tape in her game with Carter winning in five 6/11, 11/6, 11/6, 9/11, 12/10

Week Commencing 1st February 2010            Hamish Innes was on top form for Hutton "A" in their 7 - 3 home win over Billericay "C" - all three wins for Innes came in three ends with Keith Phillips picking up two wins - losing to Neil Freeman (2 wins) in five  - Hutton's third player Peter Saunders collected one win but also lost in five to Freeman and in five to John Webber (1 win) - Guy McKenzie unable to score.      Mark Martin was in impressive form for Billericay "A" in a hard fought 5 - 5 draw with Billericay Sports "B" - his three wins were coupled with a pair for Terry Timms - Paul Mulley pointless.  For the visitors Keith Adams won twice and Bruce Kettle and Andrew Murray winning one each - the doubles point going to Adams and Kettle.

Week Commencing 25th January 2010             Bruce Kettle came out on top unbeaten for Billericay Sports "B" against Billericay Sports "A" - won 6 - 4 by the "B" team - Keith Adams picked up two wins, losing in three to an in form Marilyn Bawden who won twice - Mike Johnston and Keith Ashton also picked up a useful win each - Andrew Murray failing to score for the eventual winners with Kettle and Adams taking the doubles.    St. Joseph's entertained Hutton "A" and were defeated 1 - 9 with Robbie Burton the only home player to get on the scoresheet - his win coming in three against Steve Woodley - Lindsay Phelps taking Woodley to a fifth end and Gary Carr likewise against Ken James - Hutton's Peter Saunders unbeaten all in three.   Billericay "B" made up for their loss the previous week by claiming a 6 - 4 home win over a strong Herongate trio.  John Parodi and Steve Northcott picked up two wins each and John Gagg one - with success in the doubles netting the sixth point for the home team.  Gagg lost in the first singles in five to Neal Barker (2 wins), lost to Richard Jackman in three and in his last singles defeated Dave Bassett in five - Bassett's only win coming against Northcott - Jackman could only post one win on the board losing in five to Parodi and four to Northcott - certainly an excellent win for Billericay against a high flying Herongate side.      St. Joseph's fared a little better in their second match - against Billericay "A" at Ramsden Heath they only just failed to force a draw losing a fifth end in the doubles at 11/13 - in the singles Terry Timms was unbeaten - winning all three in four ends over Sue Hickman, Gary Carr and Nicola Loughran - Paul Mulley and Mark Martin with one win each were both defeated by Loughran (2 wins) with Gary Carr beating Martin and Sue Hickman overcoming Paul Mulley.  Selex "A" were 9 - 1 home winners over Billericay Sports "B" with Keith Adams the points winner for the visitors by defeating Jon Stokes - he also had a chance against Paul Stephens having won the first two ends and leading 8 - 7 up in the third and 7 - 4 up in the fourth but Stephens stuck to his task and all credit for turning the game around - winning in the final end - comments from the loser Stephens a quality player and had all the expertise and shots to get back on course and win.    Bruce Kettle gave Stokes a run in their singles with Stokes winning in five while Andrew Murray was pointless against a top class team - Chris Knight being the other Selex "A" player.      Billericay Sports "A" entertained BAE Selex "B" at Crays Hill and were losers on the night 4 - 6 to Gary Ward, Dave Calleja and Kevin Worthington - for the home side Glenn Johnson claimed two wins - losing to Calleja,  Keith Ashton picked up a point with a win over Calleja and the Johnson/Bawden combination collected another point with a win in the doubles.  The three visitors all collecting two wins.

Week Commencing 18th January 2010           BAE Selex "A" maintained their winning ways with an 8 - 2 away win at Brentwood "A" - Paul Sayer was unbeatenand well supported by Paul Stephens and Jon Stokes with two wins each and then proceeded to take an extra point with a win in the doubles for Sayer/Stephens over Paul Cuming and Debbie Auvache.  Cuming won the two points for Brentwood but needed all his efforts to get past Stokes in five winning the final end 11/9 - Trevor Carter drew a blank but also took Stokes to five before losing 9/11 in the fifth - Auvache came back from losing the first two ends against Stokes to force a fifth end but here again Brentwood were again losers.         Hutton "A" faced the family of Paul Mulley and had to be content with a draw - they held a 4 - 2 lead at one stage but were pegged back by Paul (1 win), Mark (1 win) and Mathew Mulley (2 wins) who won three of the last four games to finish with a 5 - 5 draw.  Keith Phillips was in excellent form and unbeaten for Hutton - his third win coming in five over Mark Mulley 11/7, 11/8, 3/11, 8/11, 11/9 - Hamish Innes won twice beating Mark in five but losing to Matt in four - Peter Saunders drew a blank on the night.    Herongate are maintaining their quest at the top and were 8 - 2 winners over a two man Billericay "A" team - Neal Barker and Richard Jackman were unbeaten with Graham Arthurton taking one point for a walkover - being beaten by both Terry Timms and Mark Martin and the Billericay duo then lost the doubles in four ends for a miserable night.     St. Joseph's put up a good fight against Billericay "B" and just went down 4 - 6 to their visitors who had Peter Brownlow to thank for an unbeaten performance,  winning his three in comfortable fashion - the St. Joseph's trio of Robbie Burton (2 wins), Sue Hickman (1 win) and Gary Carr (1 win) were all able to defeat John Parodi although Parodi lost to Carr 8/11 in the fifth, to Hickman 8/11 in the fifth and to Burton 9/11 in the fifth and this despite taking the first two ends against both Hickman and Burton - Steve Northcott was Billericay's third player and collected two wins - against Hickman 8/11, 8/11, 13/11, 11/9, 11/9 and then another five end battle which he lost to Burton.     Billericay Sports "B" gave their points total a boost with a 7 - 3 home win over Billericay "B" - star of the match was Keith Adams who was unbeaten and in the process beating Peter Barrett (1 win) and Dave Carter both in four ends and John Gagg (1 win) in three - Andrew Murray also played his part and defeated both Barrett and Carter (in five) but lost to Gagg 9/11 in the fifth - the Sport's third player was Bruce Kettle who also picked up two wins but losing to Barrett - the doubles went to the visitors to make the scoreline slightly healthier at 7 - 3 to Sports "B".

Week Commencing 4th January 2010       Doubtless the match of the week was Herongate at home to BAE Selex "A" with the result seemingly in the balance as Herongate held a 4 - 3 lead which they were unable to hang onto - losing the final three games to see the leaders Selex "A" cross the winning line 6 - 4.   Paul Sayer was outstanding and unbeaten - losing the first end to Dave Bassett but collecting the next three - Bassett however played the game of the season to take away the 100% singles record of Chris Knight in five ends 10/12, 11/5, 7/11, 11/7, 11/9 - Jon Stokes had what might seem to be an off night and failed to score but considering the strength of the opposition in Bassett, Richard Jackman and Peter Davis it came as no surprise for Stokes to lose to both Davis and Jackman in five in games where he lost the first two ends but recovered to take the games to a final fifth end - unusual for Stokes to be pointless.           Billericay Sports "B" collected a useful  6 - 4 victory over their Billericay Sports "A" team with Bruce Kettle unbeaten, Keith Adams winning twice and Andrew Murray pointless against Marilyn Bawden with two wins and Mike Johnston and Keith Ashton one win each.    Billericay "C" welcomed their club colleagues Billericay "A" to a local derby with the "C" team coming out on top thanks in part to a super maximum from Steve Muth - taking all three games in three ends - Ray Eldridge did likewise in two of his games but lost out to Terry Timms in three - Paul Mulley and Mark Martin were Eldridge's defeated opponents.  Guy McKenzie weighed in with one win over Mulley who was unable to score - the doubles point went to the visitors with Timms/Martin losing the first two ends but storming back to clinch a five ender with a 20/18 win in the fifth end.       A slightly changed Billericay "C" team of John Webber, Neil Freeman and Guy McKenzie came up against a Billericay Sports "A" team featuring Brian Adams, Glen Johnson and Marilyn Bawden and were on the wrong end of a 9 - 1 scoreline with only Freeman able to collect any points with a win over Bawden.  Bawden's win over Webber being the pick of the games in the first encounter of the match - coming from behind she pulled off a five end win 11/9, 6/11, 5/11, 12/10, 11/8, .   Adams and Johnson being rarely troubled.     BAE Selex "B" seem unable to find their form at the moment and were soundly beaten 10 - 0 by a rampant Hutton "A" team of Peter Saunders, Keith Phillips and Hamish Innes - Phillips and Innes losing only three ends all evening while Saunders had to fight to a fifth end against both Chris Aukett and Trevor Collin but comprehensively beating Kevin Worthington in three.

Week Commencing 21st December            Resounding wins for the top two teams in the league with a Billericay "B" team of John Gagg, Dave Carter and John Parodi unable to halt the run of successes for BAE Selex "A" who had Chris Knight and Paul Stephens unbeaten and Jon Stokes winning twice in a 9 - 1 away win.   John Gagg was the sole point scorer with a three end win over Stokes 11/5, 14/12, 13/11 although Carter came extremely close to defeating the same player - taking the first two ends 13/11, 11/9 but losing the next three 2/11, 9/11, 9/11.   Gagg also forced Stephens into a fifth end in the first singles of the match losing 11/8, 9/11, 5/11, 11/9, 6/11.  The nine points won by Selex "A" gives them a healthy seventeen points lead going into the second round of matches.    The second placed team Herongate almost collected the same score in their away match at Billericay Sports "A" with Neal Barker and Dave Bassett unbeaten and Graham Arthurton winning once - his two losses coming in five against Mike Johnston and in three against Marilyn Bawden - Keith Ashton let a 2 - 1 lead in ends slip against Arthurton only to lose in five in an 8 - 2 away win for Herongate.  Marilyn Bawden's defeat at the hands of Neal Barker deserves some recognition as she lost 9/11, 11/9, 11/13, 12/10, 12/14 - Heronagte only just holding on to second spot from Hutton "A".

Week Commencing 14th December              There were a total of 45 ends played in the match Billericay Sports "B" versus Herongate - the visitors winning 8 - 2 thanks to maximums from Peter Davis and Richard Jackman and one win from Neal Barker - even the doubles went to a fifth end with Jackman and Barker taking it in five.  But the match itself in singles produced some excellent table tennis - with Keith Adams getting the ball rolling with a five end win over Barker - Andrew Murray lost to Davis  followed by a loss for Bruce Kettle against Jackman - Murray then brought the scores level by defeating Barker but from then on it was all five end battles with the home side on the losing end each time despite numerous ends taken at deuce.  Adams lost to Jackman  and Davis in five with scores against Davis of 9/11, 11/9, 4/11, 11/8, 10/12 - Kettle lost in five to both Barker and Davis  - scores in this one 13/11, 14/12, 7/11, 12/14, 11/13 ro Davis and with Murray losing his remaining two games the score was 7 - 2 with the doubles going to five and at 11/9 to Herongate in the fifth.

Week Commencing 7th December            Keith Phillips was the star in a Hutton "A" 7 - 3 win over Billericay Sports "B" -  taking all three singles although he was taken to five ends by both Andrew Murray (led 2-1) and Bruce Kettle (lost 10/12 in fifth) and in four by Keith Adams (won 1st end) - Django Fung won twice losing in three to Adams with Hutton's third man Peter Saunders picking up one point with a win over Kettle. The doubles secured a further point for the home side but were forced to come from two ends down before coasting home in the final three ends.       Phil Purser was on the mark for Brentwood "A" in their home match against St. Joseph's- Purser collected three wins including a five end win over Robbie Burton who was the only singles winner for the visitors - being successful in a five end win over Trevor Carter and in four ends over Bob Garson (P/up) - Carter and Garson defeating both Sue Hickman and Lindsay Phelps in an 8 - 2 home win.     In their next match Brentwood "A" were away to Billericay "A" with the final result being a 5 - 5 draw and in this Trevor Carter excelled with three wins - in his first Carter lost the first two ends against Terry Timms but managed to collect the final three ends 16/18, 9/11, 11/8, 11/4, 11/8. Phil Purser supported with two wins - losing to Ev Lucas 11/13 in the fifth - Colin Griffiths (P/up) was the visitors third player and unable to score.  For Billericay Luccas 2 wins, Timms and Martin 1 win each and a successful fifth point in the doubles.    BAE Selex "B" moved themselves a little further up the table with an 8 - 2 home win over bottom club St. Joseph's - Kevin Worthington was unbeaten - losing one end to the impressive Robbie Burton who defeated both Gary Ward and Dave Calleja in four ends - Sue Hickman and Gary Carr were pointless with Carr taking the first two ends against Ward but failing to make the most of the advantage.

Week Commencing 30th November          Top match this week saw the BAE Selex "A" team of Jon Stokes, Paul Stephens and Paul Sayer storm to the top of the table with a 10 - 0 defeat of their BAE Selex "B" team colleagues of Gary Ward, Dave Calleja and Trevor Collin - six of the singles were taken in four ends and the remaining three were over quickly in three - and it would be difficult to see who is likely to prevent them from making it two league titles in a row.       Billericay Sports "A" entertained Billericay "B" and struggled to contain their visitors - losing 3 - 7 - with Peter Barrett unbeaten and John Parodi and John Gagg both winning twice - for the home side Marilyn Bawden defeated Gagg in five despite losing the first two ends and Mike Johnston just managed to cross the line in the fifth end against Parodi 11/9, 11/13, 12/10, 8/11, 12/10 - Sports third player  Keith Ashton failed in all three singles but just went under in the fifth end 10/12 to Gagg and 9/11 also the fifth to Barrett - the home pairing of Ashton/Bawden took the doubles against Gagg/Parodi in three.    The Billericay Sports "A" team had a week earlier travelled to Ramsden Heath to play Billericay "A" - losing 4 - 6 they were indebted to their new recruit Brian Adams for a winning unbeaten debut - the other point coming in a win for Mike Johnston with Keith Ashton unable to score - for Billericay Ev Lucas, Paul Mulley and Mark Martin were winners in five singles and the doubles.      Dave Carter, Peter Brownlow and John Gagg of Billericay "B" salvaged a 5 - 5 draw by taking the doubles point against BAE Selex "B" who fielded Dave Calleja (unbeaten), Trevor Collin and Chris Aukett with one win each - Collin defeating Gagg in five and Aukett getting the better of Carter also in five.  Calleja being particularly impressive and never really troubled

Week Commencing 23rd November          Match of the week St. Joseph's versus Billericay Sports "B" ended in a 10 - 0 win for the visitors but St. Joseph's must have believed that the gremlins were against them -  Robbie Burton was up against Keith Adams in the first game - Burton went two ends down - recovered to take the encounter to a fifth end and then went 9 - 4 ahead in the final end when Adams pulled off the unexpected by taking the next seven points and the set.  Burton's second game against Kettle was also going his way at 2 - 1 but here again he fell in the fifth 9/11,  and yet again against Andrew Murray 2 - 1 ahead but this time falling in the fifth 11/13 - definitely not Robbie's night.  Sue Hickman lost 15/17 in the fifth against Kettle, 12/14 in the fifth against Murray and 10/12 in the third against Adams.  Gary Carr suffered similarly as his colleagues - five against Murray, four against Adams and three against Kettle but the final twist came in the doubles with the home side taking the first two ends but then dropping the final three.  Definitely not a night to remember for the battling St. Joseph's team who deserved to gain something from a very close match.            Kevin Worthington was unbeaten in the BAE Selex "B" match against Billericay "A"  which resulted in a 5 - 5 draw - he was never pushed to a fifth end while Dave Calleja who picked up one point lost to Terry Timms in five, lost to Mark Martin in four but got the better of Ev Lucas in four - Trevor Collin found the going somewhat tough and lost all three games in four ends.      No unbeaten player in the match between Billericay "C" and Brentwood "A" but the visitors produced the goods in a 7 - 3 away win with Debbie Auvache, Trevor Carter and Philip Purser all picking up two wins against Ray Eldridge, Steve Muth and John Webber - Eldridge defeated Auvache, Muth defeated Purser and Webber overcame Carter - the seventh point scored for Brentwood was in the doubles to five ends for the final point.                 A week earlier Brentwood "A" lost 2 - 8 at home to Hutton "A" - Paul Cuming won twice with Philip Purser and Bob Garson failing to score - for the visitors Keith Phillips was the star and undefeated, his best win coming against Cuming in five - Django Fung collected two wins just being edged out 9 - 11 by Cuming in the fifth and Hamish Innes also winning twice.      Moving ominously close to the top are last years champions Selex "A" who entertained Billericay "A" - the visitors could only muster one point - a win for Terry Timms over Jon Stokes in four - Paul Stephens was rarely troubled and Chris Knight needed a little more time to dispose of Timms in five - Ev Lucas and Paul Mulley failing to score - final score 9 - 1 in favour of BAE Selex "A".

Week Commencing 16th November           The non arrival of a number of result cards has limited the reports and news that can be conveyed to the media - the only card received concerned St. Joseph's in a home match on Tuesday 17th November against Billericay "C" which resulted in a 2 - 8 defeat for the home side.  For the visitors both Steve Muth and Neil Freeman recorded comfortable maximums with their third player recording one singles victory - over Gary Carr - McKenzie lost 10/12 in the fifth to Sue Hickman and in four to Lindsay Phelps.   Three cards outstanding for matches are Selex "B" versus Billericay "A" - date Thursday 12th November - Brentwood "A" versus Hutton "A" - Tuesday 17th November and Herongate versus Selex "B" - Monday 16th November.

Week Commencing 9th November            Herongate hang on to top spot despite losing at home to Brentwood "A" 4 - 6.  The home side fielded Dave Bassett who defeated Phil Purser in five for one point, Graham Arthurton whose singles win came over Trevor Carter and Richard Jackman who collected Herongate's remaining two points but none of the home side could get the better of Paul Cuming who was undefeated - having to come from behind against Jackman before crossing the finishing line in five and with the doubles point going to the away side in five despite losing the first two ends - Cuming/Carter over Arthurton/Jackman 8/11, 10/12, 11/8, 11/6, 11/8.                Another 6 - 4 away win came with Billericay "B" defeating their club colleagues Billericay "C" and here again the value of an unbeaten player cannot be over estimated as Peter Barrett defeated Ray Eldridge in four, Neil Freeman in three and Guy McKenzie in five - coming from behind to record victory - John Gagg lost to Eldridge in five but put two wins on the board and another away win for the visitors in the doubles ensured victory - Dave Carter failed to score for the "B" team but put up strong opposition loosing to both Freeman and McKenzie in five.                        A week earlier a slightly changed Billericay "B" team of Steve Northcott (unbeaten), Peter Barrett (2 wins) and John Parodi were entertained by their Billericay "A" team of Ev Lucas, Terry Timms (1 win) and Paul Mulley (1 win) - Lucas picking up two wins - over Barrett and Parodi both in three but falling to Northcott  in five, taking the first two ends but failing to hold on.  Timms beat Parodi but lost to his other two opponents both in five with Mulley having to be satisfied with a win over the pointless Parodi - doubles to the "home" side ensured a share of the points 5 - 5.                  Hutton "A" and BAE Selex "A" ensured a night of top table tennis which ended in a win for the visitors - Chris Knight maintained his early season form and was unbeaten - losing an end to Django Fung in the process - Paul Stephens won twice for Selex defeating both Peter Saunders and Hamish Innes, both in four, but could make no headway against Fung - the visitors third player Jon Stokes went under in five to Saunders, four to Innes and three to Fung - with the doubles proving once again to be the match winner with the Selex duo winning in five 5/11, 11/5, 8/11, 11/6, 11/2.                  The following week the same BAE Selex "A" trio of Jon Stokes, Paul Stephens and Chris Knight showed no mercy to the St. Joseph's team of Robbie Burton, Sue Hickman and Nicola Loughran with the visitors collecting a handy 10 - 0 win which pushes them high up the table.       Billericay Sports "A" entertained Hutton "A" and with only two players in Keith Ashton and Marilyn Bawden did well to collect three points in a 3 - 7 defeat against Django Fung, Keith Phillips and Hamish Innes - Bawden playing exceptionally well to defeat both Innes and Phillips in five and Ashton also defeating Innes.

Week Commencing 2nd November            Billericay Sports "A" found all three of Brentwood "A" visiting players Paul Cuming, Trevor Carter and Phil Purser were able to get their names on the scoresheet and win 7 - 3 - Cuming was unbeaten - Trevor Carter collected two wins with Phil Purser claiming one win.  For the home side Keith Ashton came back superbly in the first singles of the match against Carter - losing the first two ends Ashton kept his composure to take the following three ends 8/11, 6/11, 11/9, 11/8, 11/7 - Ashton also needed to come from an end down against Purser before winning in five while his final game against Cuming ended in defeat in four - Marilyn Bawden defeated Purser for her one point with Sports third player Brian Cole (P/Up) a late replacement for an absentee was unable to cause any problems for his opponents and failed to score.         Another Billericay Sports team in action the "B" team of Keith Adams, Bruce Kettle and Malcolm Henstock (P/Up) gained a very creditable draw against BAE Selex "B" who fielded Kevin Worthington (2 wins), Gary Ward (" wins) and Trevor Collin (1 win) - the two wins for Adams came with defeats for Collin in three and Worthington in five - this one going to the wire in the final end 7/11, 11/2, 11/5, 13/15, 11/9 while Kettle also defeated Collin three and then had a classic tussle with Ward before edging home in five 12/10, 11/6, 8/11, 5/11, 11/9 - Adams and Kettle then combined to take the doubles in easy fashion over Worthington/Ward 11/4, 11/8, 11/5 - Henstock failing to score in a match that produced excellent attacking table tennis.

Week Commencing 26th October               With the postal dispute possibly having some impact on the delivery of result cards - no match reports are available - Billericay "C" were unable to field a team against Herongate at Ramsden Heath and accordingly conceded the points to Herongate.

Week Commencing 19th October               St. Joseph's suffered two heavy 1 - 9 defeats in 6 days - in the first at home to Billericay "A" - Robbie Burton, Sue Hickman and Nicola Loughran had only a singles win for Burton over Paul Mulley (2 wins)  to show for their efforts although his effort against Terry Timms (unbeaten) deserved some reward 11/8, 9/11, 11/9, 9/11, 9/11 - Sue Hickman gave Mulley, Ev Lucas (unbeaten) and Timms a run for their money with Hickman reaching deuce in five of her games but unable to win any and the home sides third player failed to rattle her opponents.   St. Joseph's suffered a similar fate away at Herongate in their next match - George Dianin, Richard Jackman and Peter Davis were deserved winners over Sue Hickman, Gary Carr and Lindsay Phelps with Hickman responsible for denying Jackman his maximum - winning in four 11/7, 12/10, 7/11, 12/10.  To be fair to St. Joseph,s they did manage to collect ends from their opponents but without forcing any of the encounters to a fifth end.           John Gagg was in excellent and determined mood in a Billericay "B" drawn 5 - 5 match against league leaders Hutton "A" - Gagg was unbeaten against Peter Saunders (2 wins), Keith Phillips (1 win) and Hamish Innes (1 win) and was taken to five ends by each of his opponents winning against Saunders 14/12 in the fifth, versus Innes 11/9 in the fifth and versus Phillips 11/5 in the final end.   Dave Carter lost in five against Saunders despite winning the first two ends, lost in three to Innes but came good against Phillips by coming from behind to take the tie 12/10, 8/11, 5/11, 11/6, 11/8 and the home sides third player Peter Barrett lost in five to Saunders but defeated Innes in five and recorded one point - the doubles going to the visitors.       Selex "A" moved menacingly close to the top with a 9 - 1 home win over Billericay Sports "A" - Chris Knight, Paul Stephens and Jon Stokes were far too strong for Keith Ashton, Marilyn Bawden and Mike Johnston - the home side taking all the singles points on offer but surprisingly dropped perhaps a key point in the doubles to save Sports "A" blushes.          The Billericay Sports "B" team of Keith Adams (unbeaten), Bruce Kettle (2 wins) and Andrew Murray (1 win) gained their first win of the season 6 - 4 over Billericay "C" - Neil Freeman won twice with John Webber defeating Murray 11/9 in the fifth for his one point -  and McKenzie unable to score -  the doubles point went to the visitors for their fourth point.

Week Commencing 12th October                George Reeves made a welcome return to Brentwood action for his team Billericay "C" against top of the table Hutton "A" - Reeves was unbeaten and rarely troubled against Peter Saunders, Django Fung and Ken James - Steve Muth lost to Saunders but won his other two with Billericay's third player Ray Eldridge returning the opposite - beating Saunders for his one point but losing to both Fung and James - his battle against James being particularly close 5/11, 10/12, 11/6, 15/13, 6/11                                   Herongate maintained their position in the top two with a heavy 9 - 1 home win over Billericay "B" - Peter Davis was unbeaten (losing one end all evening) as was George Dianin with Dave Bassett picking up two points - losing out to Steve Northcott in four - surprisingly none of the ties went to a fifth end and with the home side collecting the doubles point - and Billericay had to be content with their one point with both Dave Carter and John Parodi failing to score.       Brentwood "A" went down 4 - 6 at home to BAE Selex "B" with Trevor Carter winning twice against Kevin Worthington and Gary Ward - his loss coming in his game against Keith Spicer 9/11, 11/9, 12/10, 7/11, 7/11.     Phil Purser carved out two excellent wins over Ward and Spicer but failed to get the better of Worthington in a five end tie - Bob Garson (Playing Up) was the home side's third player - taking Ward to five and in fact losing a two end lead but failing to put any points on the board - Worthington/Ward took the doubles in five over Carter/Purser.             Billericay Sports "B" entertained BAE Selex "A" with Keith Adams, Bruce Kettle and Andrew Murray facing the talented trio of Paul Sayer, Paul Stephens and Jon Stokes - with the predictable result being a win for Selex "A" 8 - 2. with Adams saving the day in the singles with a three end win over Stokes - also taking Sayer to five ends in the first singles of the match, and Stephens to four - Murray and Kettle failed to score but Kettle joined Adams in the doubles and picked up their second point with a five end win over Stokes/Stephens 13/11, 8/11, 11/8, 8/11, 11/7.             BBAE Selex "B" were at home to Billericay Sports "A" and collected a 6 - 4 win thanks to a maximum from Kevin Worthington,  Gary Ward won twice and Trevor Collin once - for Sports "A" their new signing Dave Colwill won twice with Marilyn Bawden defeating Collin for her valuable one point - Keith Ashton was unfortunately scoreless but Sports captured the fourth point with Bawden and Colwill defeating the home side's pairing.C

Week Commencing 5th October                      At this early stage of the season Hutton "A" look strong enough to take their challenge for the league title to the last match - their 10 - 0 home win over St. Joseph's gave all the signs of a successful season. Django Fung, Hamish Innes and Keith Phillips were too strong for Sue Hickman, Gary Carr and Lindsay Phelps - Innes came the closest to losing points - in his first encounter with Hickman he was all at sea in the first two ends but won the next three 4/11, 6/11, 11/9, 11/4, 11/7 and he was also forced to come from behind to defeat Carr in five - discounting those two ties it was a fairly comfortable win for Hutton.         Another high scoring match came with Herongate playing away at Billericay "A" - their team of Neal Barker, George Dianin and Richard Jackman picked up all nine singles but failed in five ends to record a tenth point. Ev Lucas surrendered a two end lead against Jackman only to go down in the fifth 11/7, 13/11, 5/11, 9/11, 11/13 - Terry Timms did likewise - going 2 - 1 in front but losing the final two ends 8/11, 9/11 - Timms also failed in five ends against Dianin with only three points separating them at the conclusion - Mark Martin plugged away but like Billericay's other two players failed to score.        League Champions Selex "A" needed a doubles win to ensure victory in their home match with Brentwood "A" - Chris Knight powered through his games with Trevor Carter and Phil Purser and needed a little more composer against Paul Cuming 13/11, 11/9, 11/4 while Jon Stokes  having won his first two games which included a cracking five end win over Cuming 8/11, 6/11, 11/8, 11/8, 11/9 before finding Carter in resilient form in the ninth singles - losing to the visitor who took the first two ends and the fifth end - for Selex Alison Gower picked up ends from each of her opponents but could not collect any points.

Week Commencing 14th September             Hutton "A" look a force to be reckoned with this season  - ntheir away match at Herongate saw them run out comfortable 7 - 3 winners against Herongate.  Keith Phillips was unbeaten for the visitors with Hamish Innes scoring twice and Peter Saunders once - Phillips win over Peter Davis in the first game of the match set the scene for the evening - coming from a 2 - 1 end deficit Phillips got the better of Davis in the final two ends 9/11, 11/9, 145/16, 11/5, 11/7 - for the home side Neal Barker collected two wins, Richard Jackman one and unusually for Davis - three losses despite taking Phillips and Innes to five ends.         Billericay Sports "A" got their season off to a winning start with an 8 - 2 away win at St. Joseph's - both Keith Ashton and Mike Johnston were undefeated with Marilyn Bawden winning once - for the home side Sue Hickman took all of the visitors to five ends but had only one point to show for her efforts - a win over Bawden 9/11, 9/11, 12/10, 12/10, 13/11 - Bawden twice having the opportunity to win the encounter by holding a 10 - 8 lead in the third and also then fifth ends - but Hickman's tenacity paid off in the end.   Bawden also unluckily went down in five to Gary Carr - on this occasion losing 12/14 in the fifth end.  Lindsay Phelps was the home side's third player.       A draw was the order of the day in a tense affair with Billericay  "C" holding a 5 - 4 lead in singles over BAE Selex "B" but the visitors fought back in the doubles to earn a share of the points.  Steve Muth and Ray Eldridge both collected two wins - Muth over Keith Spicer and Gary Ward but losing to Trevor Collin in five despite winning the first two ends.  Eldridge lost to Ward, winning his other two  with third player Guy McKenzie  beating Collin for his one point.       Brentwood "A" maintained their good start with an 8 - 2 home win over two player Billericay "B" - Trevor Carter was pushed to five ends by the two visitors John Gagg and John Parodi but winning both - Phil Purser also going the distance in his two games - beating Gagg but losing to Parodi - while the opposite occurred with Bob Garson who defeated Parodi but lost to Gagg - five of the six singles went to five ends but the three points conceded by Billericay flattered the home side to some degree with regard to the scoreline.        Terry Timms was the player of the evening in a Billericay "A" match away at Billericay Sports "B" and remained undefeated  - Mark Mulley collected the other two points in his team's 5 - 5 draw - Mark losing out to Keith Adams in a thrilling five end encounter 7/11, 12/10, 8/11, 11/9, 8/11 - Paul Mulley unable to score for the visitors.  Adams almost denied Timms his maximum but lost in five despite holding a 2 - 1 lead in a game of strange scores - 2/11,11/3, 11/1, 4/11, 8/11.

Week Commencing 7th September               Champions Selex "A" began their quest for a second league title in succession at home against Herongate - Chris Knight (3 wins)  and Jon Stokes (1 win) took them into a 2- 0 lead winning against Peter Davis (2 wins) and Neal Barker but Richard Jackman (2 wins) over Paul Stephens (1 win) in five 13/15,11/8, 9/11, 11/8, 11/9  and Davis over Stokes pulled the visitors level - Selex again went two ahead with wins for Knight over Jackman and Stephens over Barker but were pegged back again with Jackman over Stokes and Davis over Stephens only to see Knight collect his third win to take the score to 5 - 4 but Herongate not to be outdone forced a draw with an unlikely win in the doubles Jackman/Davis beating Knight/Stokes 7/11, 3/11, 11/7, 11/7, 11/7.            Billericay "B" completed a fortunate 6 - 4 home win over St. Joseph's who could only fielld two players in Robbie Burton (2 wins) and Sue Hickman (1 win) - both getting the better of Dave Carter and with Burton also defeating John Parodi  (1 win) the victory went to the home side but not before Burton/Hickman beating Peter Barrett/Parodi in the doubles.  Barrett unbeaten in the singles.       A 10 - 0 win for former champions over Selex "B" with new signing Hamish Innes impressive in an unbeaten performance in company with Django Fung and Keith Phillips - Kevin Worthington, Trevor Collin and Keith Spicer were unable to force any of the ties into a fifth end.   Another maximum man was Paul Cuming of Brentwood "A" in their 8 - 2 home win over Billericay Sports "B"£ - Trevor Carter and Phil Purser supported with two wins each but both had to give best to Keith Adams who picked up the visitors two points - Bruce Kettle and Andrew Murray the other two visitors.      An "away"  win for Billericay "C" over Billericay "B" with a score line of 6 - 4 to the "C" team - Mark Mulley was the star of the match winning all three of his singles in four - with dad Paul Mulley getting the fourth point with a win over John Webber - Ray Eldridge and Neil Freeman supported with two wins each.
