Billericay Sports "A"  0  -  5   BAE Selex "B" - conceded

Billericay "B"   3  -  5   Billericay "C"

A local derby saw the usually reliable John Gagg, John Parodi and Dave Carter only able to win one of the six singles games on offer - a five end win for Gagg against Neil Freeman - Gagg unlucky to lose his earlier singles against John Webber 7/11, 11/9, 11/7, 9/11, 11/13 - they were able to win the first two doubles but when Carter lost the final singles to Guy McKenzie the match was over with a 5 - 3 scoreline to the "C" team.

Brentwood "A"   0  -  5   BAE Selex "A"

The Brentwood "A" trio of Paul Cuming, Trevor Carter and Phil Purser were up against the BAE Selex "A" team of Chris Knight, Paul Stephens and Jon Stokes with the match failing to live up to expectations - a resounding 5 - 0 win to the visitors with Carter the only home player to take an end - against Stokes.  Otherwise it was all one way traffic with a 5 - 0 score to Selex "A".

Hutton "A"   7  -  1   Billericay Sports "B"

Visitors Billericay Sports "B" started off brightly enough with a five end doubles win for Bruce Kettle and Andrew Murray over Keith Phillips and Peter Saunders - taken in five 9/11, 11/9, 11/7, 9/11, 12/10 - but from then on it was all down hill for the Sports trio.   Keith Adams lost in four to Hamish Innes despite winning the first end - Bruce Kettle took a 2 - 1 lead against Peter Saunders but lost in five and Andrew Murray lost in four against Keith Phillips - the middle doubles went to Hutton and the match was wrapped up with a three end win for Hamish Innes over Bruce Kettle.

KNOCK OUT CUP FINAL

The final between Herongate and BAE Selex "A"was played at Mountnessing Table Tennis Club and resulted in a win for Herongate 5 - 3 with the successful side of Dave Bassett, Richard Jackman and Graham Arthurton getting the better of Chris Knight, Jon Stokes and Alison Gurner.  Paul Stephens was missing from the Selex team due to his injury which he sustained in the Closed Tournament three days earlier.

Semi Final Week Commencing 9th March 2009

A classic final looks certain to take place between the current first and second placed clubs in the Premier Division.  Herongate and BAE Selex "A" both came safely through their Semi Finals.

Herongate  5  -  1  Hutton "A"

Herongate produced a top class performance to defeat last seasons Knock Out Cup winners Hutton "A" - George Dianin, Richard Jackman and Graham Arthurton took the first end in five of the games and although the first doubles went to five the home side were able to collect the wins necessary - Arthurton being the only loser to Keith Phillips in three but both Django Fung and Peter Saunders were unable to put their opponents under too much pressure and the winners go through to the final with a 5 - 1 scoreline.

Selex "B"  0   -  5  Selex "A"

A classic final looks certain to take place between the current first and second placed clubs in the Premier Division.  Selex "B"team of Kevin Worthington, Keith Spicer and Trevor Collin found the Selex "A" team of Chris Knight, Paul Stephens and Jon Stokes in commanding form - final result 5 - 0 to the "visitors" with only one game reaching deuce. Spicer took and end from Stokes in their first encounter but at 4 - 0 down the odds on a comeback were shattered - the middle doubles pairing of Worthington and Collin took the first end against Knight and Stokes but that was the end of the home side's resistance.

Second Round Week Commencing 8th December 2008

Buttsbury “A” 0  -  5  Herongate - Conceded

Hutton “A” 8 - 1  Selex “C”

Selex “A” 5  -  0   Billericay “C” - Conceded

Selex “B” 5  -  0   Billericay “A” - Conceded

A comfortable win for last years Premier Division Knock Out Cup winners Hutton "A" in their home match with bottom club BAE Selex "C" - the first doubles gave hope to the visitors when Alby Warner and Chris Aukett took the first two ends against Keith Phillips and Peter Saunders but the home pairing stormed back to capture the first encounter in five - four easy wins followed and the match was over when the middle doubles went to the home pairing in three ends for a comprehensive win.  The match was played out to the end in a sporting manner with Aukett gaining some satisfaction with a five end win over Saunders.   Django Fung first singles saw him up against Colin Clements and although the first end went to the visitor Fung came through to complete a four end win.

First Round Week Commencing 13th October 2008

Billericay Sports "A"   4  -  5   BAE Selex "B"

Billericay "C"   5  -  1   Billericay "B"

Herongate v Brentwood "A"

BAE Selex "C"   6  -  3  v Mountnessing "A"

Billericay “C” entertained Billericay “B” and were 5 – 1 winners in a match which saw only one game to a fifth end.  Peter Barrett and John Gagg got the “C” off to a great start against father and son Paul and Matt Mulley – sneaking home 20/18, 12/10, 11/5 – Peter Brownlow followed up with a three end win over Terry Timms but Matt Mulley pulled one back by defeating Gagg in three but the next three encounters all went to the “C” team – Barrett over Paul Mulley  in four, the middle doubles in three followed by Brownlow just getting the better of Matt Mulley in five ends 11/6, 8/11, 11/8, 7/11, 11/6.                    Billericay Sports “A” went down 4  -  5 at home to Selex “B” in a match that went to the final doubles.  Debbie Auvache defeated Kevin Worthington, Marilyn Bawden and Ray Eldridge both defeated Keith Spicer and in that fateful final doubles Auvache and Eldridge lost 8/11 in the fifth end to Worthington and Spicer.    Third player for the winners Gary Ward was in good form – winning two singles and one doubles.          BAE Selex “C” were at home to Mountnessing “A” and with the visitors only fielding two players the odds were stacked heavily against them - conceding the first doubles the visitors then went ahead with Dave Finlayson beating Kevin Smart in four ends followed by Mark Allaway doing likewise to Alby Warner but with the following two games conceded Allaway brought the scores level again by defeating Smart in five but Trevor Ward put BAE back in front by defeating Finlayson and thus ensuring victory as the next singles was conceded.  Final score 6 – 3 to BAE Selex.

Details for season 2007-2008 listed below

Keith Phillips report is as follows: -                                 With the score at 3-1 in Herongate's favour after a doubles win 11-9 in the 5th end for Barker/Arthurton over Phillips/Fung and singles wins for Arthurton over Phillips 15-13 in the 5th end and Barker over Fung in 4 ends, Hutton's reply a 3 end win for Read over Jackman,           Hutton's ambitions of a treble were slipping from their grasp.                            The deficit however was soon remedied with undoubtedly what was the most exciting and entertaining game of an evening of high quality table tennis with a 3 end doubles win for Read/Fung over Jackman/Arthurton,  only 3 ends, easy you might say, but 3 ends of classic doubles play by four on form players.              Phillips then restored parity in the match with a 4 end win over Jackman.                    It then fell to Hutton's strongest player Read to get Hutton back on track for the treble and he duly obliged with a 3 end win over Barker.                       At 4-3 in Hutton's favour and the match still nicely poised Fung provided the victory to take Hutton over the finishing line with a 4 end win over Arthurton although that final point was the toughest to get as Arthurton saved match points against him in both the 3rd and 4th ends before finally succumbing.

A great match played in excellent spirit by all.

Semi-finals week commencing 10th March 2008

Hutton "A" 5  -  1  Billericay "A"

Herongate "A" 5  -  0  W/Over  Buttsbury "A"

The Hutton "A" trio of the ever present Keith Phillips, Django Fung and Peter Saunders took a further step to a treble by defeating the Billericay "A" visitors of John Gagg, John Parodi and Dave Carter.  The visitors were in trouble from the first doubles  Fung/Saunders easily beating Parodi/Carter in three- Phillips overcame Gagg in four but Parodi pulled one back for the visitors by defeating Saunders in four but that was where the resistance failed as Hutton went on to take the remaining three ties in comfortable fashion - their opponents in the final will be Herongate who were given a free ride to the final when Buttsbury conceded the match due to being unable to field a qualified team.

Second Round  week commencing 10th December 2007

BAE Selex "A"   0  -  5   Herongate

Billericay "B" 1  -  5   Hutton "A"

Brentwood "A"   0  -  5 W/O Billericay "A"

Buttsbury "A"  5  -  1   Billericay Sports "B"

At first glance the 5 - 0 success by Herongate over BAE Selex "A" might well have looked easy but in effect the visitors had to rely on three five end encounters all at deuce and also the remaining two encounters going to four ends.      The first doubles saw Keith Spicer and Trevor Collin hold an end advantage at 2- 1 over Neal Barker and Graham Arthurton but the home pair were unable to hang on and lost the final two ends 7/11 and 10/12.  More misfortune was to fall on Gary Ward as he took the first two ends against Richard Jackman but he likewise lost in five 13/11, 11/6, 7/11, 8/11, 10/12.   Collin lost to Barker in four having won the first end  and just failed to take the game into a fifth end losing 21/23 in the third.  Spicer then followed up against Arthurton by  taking the first two ends but losing the next three - again a fifth end at 10/12 which saw Herongate take a 4 - 0 lead with the win being completed in the next middle doubles in four ends.         Buttsbury "A" seek to retain at least one title this season and gained an easy 5 - 1 win over Billericay Sports "B".    Reagan Nettleingham, George Pavitt and Ev Lucas were rarely extended against Brian Cole, Dave Kirston and Andrew Murray with only a win for Murray over Pavitt in five to show for their efforts.                              On course for a League and Cup double are Hutton "A" who played their away second round match at Billericay "B" - the visitors Keith Phillips, Peter Saunders and Ken James  lost the first doubles in five ends but then proceeded  to take the next five encounters to ease to victory 5 - 1.  The match was a little closer than the score suggest as Guy McKenzie lost to James in five after holding a 2 - 1 lead and John Webber held a 2 - 0 lead but lost to Saunders in five - Neil Freeman was Billericay's third player but went down in four to Saunders        Brentwood "A" conceded their match with Billericay "A".

No Preliminary Round - First Round in week commencing 8th October 2007

Draw as below

Hutton "A" 5  -  0 W/Over   Billericay "C"

Mountnessing "A"  3 -  5   Buttsbury "A"

An  excellent match was played to a finish with Mountnessing "A" holding Buttsbury "A" 3 - 3 before finally going down 3 - 5.  The home side took the first doubles with Dave Finlayson and Mark Allaway defeating Pavitt and Lucas in five but the visitors drew level with probably the game of the evening Hamish Innes versus John Holland - Holland just getting the better of Innes in five ends 7/11, 11/9, 11/9, 8/11, 11/6 - Alloway then defeated Pavitt also in five to put the home side ahead again only to be pulled back level with Ev Lucas defeating Finlayson in four.  Innes and Holland were again involved this time in the middle doubles along with their parttners Allaway and Lucas which went to the visitors, again in five 11/7, 11/5, 8/11, 7/11, 11/9  - Buttsbury now had the win in sight but Innes came to the fore again with a four end win over Pavitt to make the scores 3 - 3.        Holland over Finlayson and Lucas over Allaway however gained the two wins necessary to see the visitors home 5 - 3.
