A Brentwood Veterans "B" team entertained a strong Chelmsford "C" team and found themselves on the wrong end of a 7 - 2 scoreline - Sue Hickman and Lindsay Phelps got the match under way against Peter Hance and Herbie Smith losing the first doubles in three.  Robbie Burton came to the table and pulled off a four end win over Chelmsford's number one Richard Hiskey - Lindsay then lost to Peter Hance and with Sue Hickman also losing (to Herbie Smith) and then Chelmsford taking the middle doubles the writing was on the wall for the home side.  Robbie then claimed his second win of the match with a fine five end win over Hance - Robbie losing the first two ends but recovering to win the next three but with the remaining three games going to Chelmsford a 3 - 7 loss was the outcome for the home side.

Dave Carter's intrepid threesome John Gagg, John Parodi and Dave himself made the long journey to Clacton for a Veterans Division Two match on 29th November and were holding a 4 - 3 lead with two ties to go and looked odds on for a handsome victory when they lost concentration and found themselves travelling home having lost 4 - 5.  The Clacton team began well with success in the first two games - losing the first doubles followed by John Gagg losing to Colin Webber (Clacton number one) in three.  Brentwood then reeled off three in a row - John Parodi beating their number three David Hall in three, Dave Carter beating number two Martin Edwards in four and then Parodi & Carter taking the middle doubles. Webber then evened up the score by squeezing home with the narrowest of margins over Parodi in five 4/11, 11/5, 9/11, 11/4, 16/14 but Gagg put Brentwood in front 4 - 3 - by defeating Edwards in four.  Dave Carter then faced their number three David Hall and having already beaten their number two must have fancied his chances but he unfortunately could not produce the same result and fell in three which left the match evenly balanced at 4 - 4.  John Gagg and John Parodi then surged into a winning position by taking the first two ends against Webber and Edwards but they were unable to consolidate their position and lost the next three ends to hand the match to Clacton 5 - 4 11/4, 11/7, 5/11, 10/12, 5/11.

Another Clacton team faced the Brentwood Super Veterans team at Crays Hill on Sunday 6th December and here again the Brentwood team got to a winning score of 4 - 2 and then lost control, allowing the Clacton team to level at 4 - 4.  In this match however the Brentwood pairing of John Gagg and George Pavitt took the final doubles in four against John Rice and John Dearman to post a winning score of 5 - 4.  The first doubles went to John Dearman and John Hobson over George Pavitt and Dave Carter despite the home pair coasting the first two ends 11/6, 11/8, 6/11, 9/11, 10/12 -  John Gagg levelled the score beating John Rice in four - Dave Carter took the first two ends against John Dearman only to lose in five but George Pavitt collected a three end win over John Hobson and with Brentwood winning the middle doubles followed by a win for John Gagg over John Dearman the signs looked good for the home side - George Pavitt lost his next singles in five as did Dave Carter but the final doubles came to the aid of Brentwood and they ran out 5 - 4 winners.

The Brentwood Super Veterans "A" team welcomed Colchester to Crays Hill on Sunday 18th October and went down by the narrow margin of 4 - 5.  Ray Eldridge, George Pavitt and Dave Carter each collected a singles win and also won the first doubles but their failure in the remaining two doubles were to cost them the match.  Ray Eldridge got the singles off to a fine start beating Alan Burgess but the Colchester number two Fred Button easily defeated Dave Carter and Ray Eldridge for two visiting points  - Burgess got the better of Pavitt in three and it was down to the final doubles which gave Colchester a narrow win.

The next month saw the same three Brentwood team of John Gagg, John Parodi and Dave Carter again win 6 - 3 but this time over a Chelmsford "B" team of Richard Jennings, Trevor Carter and Brian Cook - the doubles were crucial to the victory in this match as the Brentwood team picked up all three points in the doubles and theswe coupled with the three singles wins gave Brentwood the edge.  None of the home side could master Trevor Carter who won both his singles with Richard Jennings also berating John Parodi for the visitors third point - Brian Cook failing to score

The Veterans "A" team are on the search for more trophies again and with John Gagg, John Parodi and Dave Carter in the team against Chelmsford "A" at Danbury Village Hall on Sunday 25th October they ran out 6 - 3 winners - they were up against a strong Chelmsford trio of Adrian Pitt, Pip French and Ivan Chaplin - Dave Carter produced some of his old form to pick up two good wins over French in four and Chaplin in three - Dave was also involved in the two doubles wins - initially with John Parodi in the first and then John Gagg in the send  (a close affair taken 11/9 in the fifth).  John Gaggs win over Frennch in five and John Parodi beating Chaplin also in five.

The Veterans 'B' team played away against Waltham Forest on Sunday 22nd November and gave an inter-league debut to Robbie Burton (St. Joseph's).  The match was an entertaining encounter with the match score being level until the home team took the lead in the seventh match of the afternoon and they then were able to maintain this advantage and came away with a home win of 6-3.  The Brentwood team of Robbie Burton, Sue Hickman and Lindsay Phelps tried hard but found some of the different rubber combinations difficult to overcome.  John Fitzgerald, Alan Scammel and Graeme Bartrop represented Waltham Forest - Robbie Burton got the better of Fitzgerald followed by Sue Hickman defeating Bartrop which took Brentwood into a 2 - 1 lead - the only other success after this coming in the middle doubles Burton & Phelps winning in four against Fitzgerald/Bartrop.

Veterans 'B' team played against Burnham 'C' on Sunday October 18th at St. Josephs and despite playing very well and with the visitors appearing to get most of the vital nets and edges lost their oppening match of the Inter-league season.  The final match result was 7-2 to Burnham, the same result as last season.  The Brentwood team were Sue Hickman, Sue Body and Lindsay Phelps.
