LATEST REPORT NOW FIRST
Week Commencing 1st March 2010 Brentwood "B" featured in two matches - losing 6 - 4 away to Writtle "A" who had another maximum from Mathew Brown to add to two wins for Hector Rogers (beaten in five by Stan Kenner) with the pairing of Brown/Rogers then taking the doubles point over Bob Garson and Kenner - Ian Hockley was pointless for Writtle and can count himself a shade unfortunate losing to both Garson and Colin Griffiths in five and Kenner in four. Brentwood's team opf Garson (1 win), Griffiths (1 win) and Kenner (2 wins). A long drawn out match between Brentwood "B" at home to Billericay "D" meant that the doubles point was yet again conceded due to time constraints as five of the ties went to a fifth and final end - no player finished unbeaten with Brian Steward (2 wins) losing to Alan Wood (1 win) and Colin Griffiths (2 wins) losing to Keith Cullen (2 wins) Mary Nicholls losing to both Cullen and Bill Wall both in five but defeating Wood in five in what must have been a hectic match - 5 to 5 ends, 1 to four ends and three to three ends and no time left to play the doubles. Billericay Sports "D" entertained their "C" team and narrowly missed out on a draw losing 4 - 6 to Pat White unbeaten, Alf Fox and Nigel Swanton 1 win each over Brian Wellman. Brian Cole and Mick Joslin picked up two wins each both coming from a deficit against Fox to pick up wins in five.
Week Commencing 22nd February 2010 Nine one wins the order of the day in this Division for the home teams as BAE Selex "C" defeated Buttsbury "A", Mountnessing "B" did likewise against Billericay Sports "D" and Billericay Sports collected the same result against Buttsbury "B". For the leaders Selex "C" both Paul Brown and Chris Aukett were undefeated with Colin Clements losing the only home game of the night to George Pavitt - with Sue Body and Tony Nettleingham being the visitors remaining two players. Moving smoothly into second place and looking odds on to be runners up and thus returning to the Premier Division are Mountnessing "B" who enjoyed another 9 - 1 home win thanks to Dave Finlayson and Gordon Gatheral being unbeaten and Mick Morris winning twice - his only loss coming at the hands of Mick Joslin in three - Phil Terry and Nigel Swanton being the visitors other two players - Swanton unlucky against Finlayson holding a 2 - 1 lead but going down 9/11 in the fifth. Billericay Sports "C" of Pat White, Alf Fox and Linda Attridge also picked up a 9 - 1 home win over Graham Sturton, Paul Sturton and Caroline Cole with White the odd man out - losing to Paul Sturton in three and needing all of his experience to defeat Cole after losing the first two ends 9/11, 5/11, 11/2, 11/5, 11/5 - Paul also taking Attridge to five ends.
Week Commencing 15th February 2010 BAE Selex "C" maintained their grip on the top of the table although they were held to a 5 - 5 draw away at Writtle "A" - no player managed to win all three games with Mathew Brown being defeated by Paul Brown in five but winning against Gary Hartgrove in five and in four against Chris Aukett- Hector Rogers lost his unbeaten hopes by losing to Hartgrove in five despite winning the first two ends while Frank Neill just held on to get the better of Aukett in five - Aukett unable to score in the match. Writtle "A" carved out another 5 - 5 draw in their away match with Mountnessing "B" - Mick Morris was in scintillating form for the home side defeating Mathew Brown, Hector Rogers and Martin Goddard all in three ends - Dave Finlayson and Jon Dyson lost to Brown and Rogers for their solitary point contribution but ensured that Mountnessing picked up five points by defeating Goddard. Billericay Sports "C" faced Buttsbury "A" with both sides calling up a player from a lower team Alf Fox, Dave Kirston and Brian Wellman faced George Pavitt, Tony Nettleingham and Paul Sturton - final result 5 - 5 with Pavitt undefeated and in great form, Nettleingham winning against Wellman despite losing the first two ends but losing to Fox despite winning the first two ends. Kirston had a five end struggle against Sturton before edging home but the doubles point for Buttsbury came as they took a two end lead only to be forced into a fifth end where they trailed 1 - 6 and 6 - 10 but Pavitt/Sturton reeled off six straight points to force an unlikely draw. Paul Sturton and brother Graham Sturton of Buttsbury "B" then faced BAE Selex "C" at home with only two players - falling to a resounding 9 - 1 defeat with Graham Sturton winning the only point for Buttsbury with a superb four end win over Gary Hartgrove, Alby Warner and Chris Aukett were undefeated. Brentwood "B" collected four points in their home match with Billericay Sports "C" but then due to time restrictions were forced to concede the doubles not for the first or last time this season. Brian Steward won twice - defeating Pat White and Alf Fox (in five) but losing to Linda Attridge, Colin Griffiths came from behind to defeat Fox in five whose one win came against Mary Nicholls - White and Attridge picking up two wins each.
Week Commencing 8th February 2010 Billericay "D" collected a 6 - 4 away win at Billericay Sports "D" and had Jon Fieldsend to thank for four of their points - unbeaten in the singles and partnered by Bill Wall they took the doubles point in five - Fieldsend was pushed all the way by Malcolm Henstock in five ends and in four by Brian Cole and Mick Joslin - Keith Cullen supported with two wins, losing to Cole in five but their third player Wall lost all three encounters in four ends - Sports four points came via Cole (2), Henstock and Joslin (1 each). Billericay "D" followed up with another win, this one at home over Buttsbury "B" 7 - 3 - Alan Wood was the unbeaten player for the home side on this occasion with three excellent wins - over Paul Sturton in four, Graham Sturton in five and Caroline Cole in four while Keith Cullen and Jon Fieldsend gained two points each - Cullen losing to Paul Sturton in five 10/12, 9/11, 12/10, 11/4, 10/12 and Fieldsend to Graham Sturton in four with the Sturton brothers taking the doubles point in four.. Billericay Sports "C" led 5 - 4 over Buttsbury "A" but then inexplicably allo0wed the visitors doubles combination to come back from a losing position and sneak the vital point to take the final score to 5 - 5. George Pavitt was as is usual, in great form and unbeaten taking his games all in easy three end fashion, Paul Sturton was denied a point in his first game of the match against Dave Kirston (2 wins) losing in the final end 11/13 and was a shade unlucky against Alf Fox (2 wins) losing 11/13, 12/14, 6/11 - Tony Nettleingham (1 win) used all of his craft to recover from losing the first two ends against Brian Wellman (1 win) to pick up the vital last three ends for his one point although against Fox he took the first two ends only for the home player to edge back into the contest and win in five - Kirston also getting the better of Nettleingham but in three. The doubles pairing of Fox/Kirston looked down and out when losing the first two ends against Pavitt/Sturton but they rallied to pick up the next two ends and held a healthy lead throughout the final end 6 - 1 at one stage followed by 10 - 6 but the visitors battled back to win six points in a row to deny the home side victory.
Week Commencing 1st February 2010 Buttsbury "A" suffered a setback in their push for promotion when they were outsmarted by Brentwood "B" and fell to a 4 - 6 loss at home - George Pavitt was in his usual impressive form and was unbeaten - Sue Body claimed the fourth point for Buttsbury with a win over Brian Steward while Tony Nettleingham for all his efforts was empty handed - his game against Mary Nicholls started well as he took the first two ends but Nicholls fought back to claim the win in five - for Brentwood Bob Garson won twice as did Nicholls with Steward on one win but the doubles success for Garson/Steward over Pavitt/Body in five confirmed the win for the visitors. Leaders BAE Selex "C" added 17 points to their tally with ma 7 - 3 home win over Billericay Sports "C" - Gary Hartgrove unbeaten, Chris Aukett winning twice and Trevor Ward picking up one win and with the home team picking up the doubles point. For the visitors Pat White was their best player with two wins over Aukett and Ward with Dave Kirston defeating Ward for his one point - Linda Attridge unable to score. The remaining ten points were conceded by Billericay "D" who were unable to field a team against BAE Selex "C".
Week Commencing 25th January 2010 Mountnessing "B" did their quest for promotion no harm at all with a 10 - 0 away win at Billericay "D" although it must be said that the home side could only muster two players in Keith Cullen and Bill Wall - Jon Dyson, Dave Finlayson and Mick Morris were rarely pushed although Wall forced Morris into a fifth end before losing 11/5, 6/11, 11/5, 10/12, 9/11 - the visitors also taking the doubles in five. Mountnessing's next match, a home fixture against Brentwood "B" , was also a winning one 7 - 3 against Bob Garson (2 wins), Brian Steward (1 win) and Colin Griffiths - Mick Morris was for the second match in succession unbeaten for the home side - his most difficult game coming against Steward which he won in five - Dave Finlayson won twice - losing in four to Garson while Gordon Gatheral went under to Steward in five in the first singles 4/11, 11/4, 9/11, 11/8, 14/16 and in three to Garson - for Brentwood Griffiths took Gatheral to five but unfortunately was unable to score on the night. Billericay Sports "D" played a home match against Buttsbury "A" and with Mick Joslin, Nigel Swanton and Brian Wellman facing George Pavitt, Rod MacLennan and Tony Nettleingham a tough fixture was on the cards for the home team - however a very creditable 5 - 5 draw was the final result with both Joslin and Swanton winning two each - both losing to Pavitt and Wellman pitched in with one win. Surprisingly MacLennan had an off night and failed to score with Nettleingham picking up a win over Wellman.
Week Commencing 18th January 2010 Buttsbury "A" gave their promotion hopes a massive boost by defeating their Buttsbury "B" team to the tune of 10 - 0. George Pavitt, Sue Body and Rod MacLennan were rarely troubled although Graham Sturton forced MacLennan to a final fifth end before giving best - Paul Sturton and Lawrie Tunbridge tried to post some points on the board but were unable to claim any wins on the night. Billericay Sports "C" entertained Writtle "A" who themselves are chasing honours - the visitors picking up a 7 - 3 away win with all three of their players winning twice - Mathew Brown and Frank Neill losing to Dave Kirston and Hector Rogers losing to Pat White - Brian Cole featured in some close games but was pointless.
Week Commencing 4th January 2010 No stopping the run of success of BAE Selex "C" who are running away with the title in this division - their 10 - 0 away win at Brentwood "B" saw one game to five Bob Garson against Chris Aukett and one game to four Garson over Gary Hartgrove otherwise all games were taken in three by the visitors - Paul Brown being nthe third visiting player to record a maximum against Garson, Brian Steward and Colin Griffiths. Two teams who will no doubt feature in the struggle for promotion at the end of the season saw Buttsbury "A" claim a 7 - 3 win over Mountnessing "B" with George Pavitt forced to play 14 ends against Dave Finlayson, Gordon Gatheral Gatheral and Steve Nicholls - his sternest test came against Nicholls where Pavitt overturned a deficit to win the final two ends 7/11, 11/4, 3/11, 11/8, 11/9 - Rod MacLennan gave best to Finlayson but otherwise won his other two while Sue Body played an important part with a singles win over Finlayson but losing the other two - the doubles went to the home side 8/11, 9/11, 11/7, 11/9, 11/8. Writtle "A" coasted into second place with an 8 - 2 away win at Billericay "D" with both Mathew Brown and Hector Rogers unbeaten and Ian Hockley winning once - Brown/Rogers also picking up the doubles point against Keith Cullen/Jon Fieldsend - the two last named beating Hockley for Billericay's points with their third player Bill Wall pointless. Buttsbury "C" are struggling at the foot of the table and are having difficulty fielding three players each game - in their latest match brothers Graham and Paul Sturton played their hearts out but still could only collect two points against Billericay Sports "D" with Malcolm Henstock and Brian Cole both unbeaten in t5wo and Brian Wellman winning once - his loss coming in four against Graham Sturton.

Week Commencing 14th December Buttsbury "A" could only field two players in their home match against Billericay "D" but still pulled off a 7 - 3 win thanks to maximums from George Pavitt and Rod MacLennan - Jon Fieldsend was the only visiting player to pick up any ends - his game against MacLennan ending 11/5, 12/10, 10/12, 9/11, 11/6 - Alan Wood and Bill Wall were Billericay's other two players but were outsmarted on the night.
Week Commencing 7th December Leaders BAE Selex "C" conso0lidated their position at the top with a 9 - 1 trouncing of Billericay Sports "D" thanks to trebles from Chris Aukett and Alby Warner - their third player Colin Clements lost a tense five end struggle to Mick Joslin for Sport's only point - Brian Wellman was pointless as was Malcolm Henstock but he would consider himself a shade unfortunate to lose to both Warner and Aukett in five ends. Warner's win over Joslin looked close at 18/16, 12/10, 12/10. Graham Sturton produced an immaculate performance against Brentwood "B" and picked up star of the match beating Brian Steward in four, Mary Nicholls in five - 14/12 in the fifth and Bob Garson in five - brother Paul Sturton defeated Nicholls for his one win but without a third player Buttsbury were on the losing end of a 4 - 6 scoreline. Mountnessing "B" did their promotion chances no harm with a 6 - 4 home win over Billericay Sports "C" - Dave Finlayson, Gordon Gatheral and Mick Morris did however find the visitors Pat White in top form and all three conceded defeat to him - the Sport's fourth point came with a win for Linda Attridge over Morris but Dave Kirston had a match to forget as he lost all three - two in five against both Finlayson and Morris and in four against Gatheral..
Week Commencing 30th November Writtle "A" and visitors Buttsbury "A" enjoyed a close match which saw the visitors claim a 6 - 4 win thanks in part to a super maximum from Rod MacLennan - taking all three singles in four, George Pavitt gave good support with two wins both in five - his loss coming at the hands of Mathew Brown in three 11/13, 11/13, 8/11 - Paul Sturton (P/up) collected the all important point - a singles win over Ian Hockley who was unable to score any points - Writtle's third player Frank Neill gained one point with the doubles point going to the home side. Mountnessing "B" are doing their best to gain a quick return to the top division and recorded a 7 - 3 home win over Buttsbury "B" - Steve Nicholls picked up a maximum with Dave Finlayson and Jon Dyson winning two each - both losing to the ever improving Graham Sturton who won both in five - Paul Sturton and Alan Tofts being pointless. A week earlier Writtle "A" had travelled to Billericay Sports "D" and returned home winners 8 - 2 with both Mathew Brown (all in three) and Hector Rogers unbeaten - Frank Neill picked up one win - over Nigel Swanton but lost his other two to Mick Joslin (in five) and Brian Cole.
Week Commencing 23rd November Graeme Dale, Alan Wood and Bill Wall of Billericay "D" were unable to contain their visitors Brentwood "B" - losing 4 - 6 with Brian Steward picking up an excellent maximum, Stan Kenner winning twice and being forced into five end battles with his three opponents and Colin Griffiths winning once - for the home side Dale picked up two wins with Wall defeating Griffiths in five at 12/10 - Alan Wood was unable to score. Mountnessing "B" held their visitors BAE Selex "C" to a commendable 5 - 5 draw - no player was able to collect a maximum with Gordon Gatheral being denied his in the final singles by Trevor Ward (1 win) - Dave Finlayson won twice losing his treble to Chris Aukett (2 wins) - Chris Crooks holding on for one win, a five end struggle against Ward 11/9, 9/11, 11/5 11/13, 15/13 - the visitors third player Paul Brown gained one win - four ends over Crooks but his game against Gatheral saw the scores at 14/12, 13/11, 10/12, 12/14, 12/14 for a win for Gatheral. Billericay Sports "C" made it three wins in a row with a 6 - 4 away win at Billericay "D" - the home trio of Keith Cullen (1 win), Alan Wood (1 win) and Jon Fieldsend (2 wins) were just pipped on the line thanks to a maximum from Pat White, Dave Kirston defeated Cullen for his one point while Linda Attridge got the better of Wood in four for her single point - the doubles win for White/Kirston over Fieldsend/Wood in five ensured the visitors picked up the majority of the points. An easy home win for Writtle "A" over bottom team Buttsbury "B" to the score of 9 - 1 - Mathew Brown, Ian Hockley and Frank Neill were rarely troubled by Graham Sturton, Paul Sturton and Alan Tofts (P/Up) with only a win for Buttsbury's Paul Sturton over Hockley preventing a clean sheet for Writtle. Billericay Sports "D" entertained Writtle "A" in their next match and were unable to prevent an 2 - 8 defeat against Mathew Brown, Hector Rogers and Frank Neill - Brian Cole and Mick Joslin beating Neill for the home side's two points with Nigel Swanton unable to score.
Week Commencing16th November The two matches featured this week involves both Billericay Sports teams - the "D" team of Mick Joslin, Brian Cole and Malcolm Henstock enjoyed a tense struggle with Mountnessing "B" at Crays Hill with the visitors team being Dave Finlayson (1 win), Chris Crooks (2 wins) and Jon Dyson (1 win) - no player from eityher side was able to collect a maximum with Dyson defeating Joslin in five and thus denying the home player his unbeaten night - Crooks got the better of Cole b(2 wins) with Finlayson beating Henstock for his single point - the doubles went to the visitors pairing of Finlayson/Crooks over Joslin/Cole which ensured the points were shared in a 5 - 5 draw. Billericay Sports "C" were then at home to their Billericay Sports "D" team and enjoyed their second win in succession by taking the match 7 - 3 with Robert Kemp unbeaten - Pat White winning twice and Dave Kirston once - for the "D" team - Mick Joslin gained two wins and Brian Cole one win with Malcolm Henstock unable to score and with the doubles going to the "home" side the seven points gained moved them somewhat nearer the top of the table.
Week Commencing 9th November Top of the table BAE Selex "C" collected a 9 - 1 home win over a Writtle "A" team forced to play up two players from the Second Division - Chris Aukett, Paul Brown both unbeaten and Colin Clements were far too strong with only Dave Moles getting on the scoresheet for Writtle with a three end win over Clements, Andy Fox (P/Up) was not disgraced in this company - forcing Aukett to a fifth end in the final singles 9/11, 12/10, 11/13, 11/5, 3/11 having earlier gone to four with Clements - Martin Goddard (P/Up) was Writtle's third player. In their next match the BAE Selex "C" team of Alby Warner, Trevor Ward and Gary Hartgrove surrendered their unbeaten start to the season away at Buttsbury "A" the home team of George Pavitt (unbeaten), Rod MacLennan and Sue Body got the better of their visitors 6 - 4 with the final point coming in a five end win in the doubles for Pavitt/MacLennan over Ward/Hartgrove - the visitors taking the first two ends and seemingly certain to snatch a draw but the home duo kept up the pressure and collected the victory 6/11, 6/11, 11/4, 11/9, 11/8 - Warner surprisingly empty handed losing all ties in four ends. Brentwood "B" found a much stronger Writtle "A" in Ian Hockley, Mathew Brown and Brian Cook in good form and good value for an 8 - 2 away win over Brian Steward, Colin Griffiths and Mary Nicholls with only Steward and Nicholls able to post any points with wins over Cook - Brown was pushed to deuce in three ends but otherwise was never in trouble while his colleagues were taken to four or five ends in all games. Billericay Sports "C" finally got on the winning trail by defeating a rejuvenated Buttsbury "B" - the visitors trio of Robert Kemp (unbeaten), Linda Attridge and Brian Warren posted a 6 - 4 narrow win courtesy of the doubles point - unfortunately for Laurie Tunbridge (P/Up) failed to find the finishing line losing to all three of his opponents but both Graham Sturton and Caroline Cole played some excellent points to collect two wins each.
Week Commencing 2nd November Buttsbury "B" made a brave effort to score their first win of the season against Billericay "D" but just failed in the run to the winning line. With the score standing at 4 - 4 Bill Wall picked up his only win of the match in the ninth singles to take the visitors ahead - his win over Paul Sturton came in five 11/4, 4/11, 11/8, 8/11, 11/8 and left Sturton pointless for the match - his first singles against Alan Wood (2 wins) also ended in defeat in five. Both Caroline Cole and Graham Sturton collected two wins each with Graham Sturton's win over Graeme Dale the pick of the match 12/10, 8/11, 7/11, 11/9, 11/6 - he defeated Wall in four but lost to Wood. Cole beating Wood but losing to Dale. An even contest in which no player remained undefeated in a 6 - 4 away win for Billericay "D". On another table at Buttsbury - their "A" team entertained Billericay Sports "C" and had George Pavitt to thank for three wins in a 5 - 5 draw - Rod MacLennan collected one win and the pair combined to take the doubles and stave off defeat - MacLennan's win came over Alf Fox - losing in five to Pat White and in four to Linda Attridge - Buttsbuury's third player Tony Nettleingham was empty handed after three winless singles.
Week Commencing 26th October BAE Selex "C" are taking the right course in their quest for promotion back to the Premier Division - their latest match a home fixture against bottom club Buttsbury "B" saw them take all points in a 10 - 0 win. Gary Hartgrove, Alby Warner and Kevin Smart were too strong for Davey Crook, Graham Sturton and Paul Sturton although the brothers Sturton will feel somewhat agrieved to have come away empty handed - in the first match of the evening Smart recovered from edefeat in the first two ends to just edge home against Graham Sturton 10/12, 5/11, 11/4, 12/10, 12/10 and in his second singles Smart also needed to recover a deficit and for the second tie in succession squeezed home in the final two ends from deuce 11/13, 12/10, 9/11, 14/12, 15/13 - Hartgrove and Warner being rarely troubled. Second placed Mountnessing "B" were also perhaps a shade unlucky to only claim a share of the points in their away match at Writtle "A" - for Mountnessing Gordon Gatheral was unbeaten, Davbe Finlayson winning once although his encounter with Frank Neill went to five with Neill winning the fifth end 11/9 - Jon Dyson was the visitors third player and unable to score perhaps a shade unfortunate against Dave Moles when losing in five after taking a 2 - 1 lead - final score 5 - 5 with Ian Hockley on the scoresheet for one win plus two each for Moles and Neill.
Week Commencing 19th October Billericay Sports "C" entertained Brentwood "B" with the match being decided in the doubles which Brentwood took to force a 5 - 5 draw. With the score standing at 4 - 4 the two unbeaten players came together in the ninth crucial singles - Pat White for Sports getting the better of Bob Garson and thus remaining unbeaten - Brian Steward, Dave Parker and Garson all managed to defeat Brian Warren and Garson managing to overcome Dave Kirston in five to claim his other singles win - Kirston starting out in fine fashion taking the first two ends 11/4, 11/6 but was then unable to cope with difficult serves that Garson was throwing in and lost the final three ends.
Week Commencing 12th October Newly promoted Billericay "D" were shown no mercy by leaders BAE Selex "C" and handed a 10 - 0 defeat with Alby Warner, Trevor Ward and Kevin Smart all recording maximums - Keith Cullen came nearest to snatching a point losing to Smart in five ends 9/11, 11/6, 6/11, 11/8, 9/11 - Smart also experienced a close three end struggle against Jon Fieldsend with two of the ends going to deuce but Lou Hopkins found the opponents in good form and like his other team players could not score. Joint second placed Mountnessing "B" picked up their third win of the season when they defeated Brentwood "B" away at Tipps Cross - Gordon Gatheral was the match winner with three wins and rarely troubled while Dave Finlayson and Mick Morris were both defeated by Brentwood's Brian Steward and Colin Griffiths- Griffith's win over Finlayson extremely close 4/11, 11/9, 5/11, 11/8, 12/10 - Brentwood's third man Stan Kenner was pointless - coming close in a five end tie with Finlayson and four ends against Morris but with a win in the doubles Mountnessing claimed the sixth point and a 6 - 4 victory to remain unbeaten. Buttsbury "A" courtesy of George Pavitt, Rod MacLennan and Sue Body ran out 9 - 1 winners over luckless Billericay Sports "D" who had Mick Joslin to thank for their one point - a three end win over Pavitt - Nigel Swanton allowed a 2 - 1 lead to slip against Body - with the home player winning the fifth end 12/10 as she also did against Joslin - Mallcolm Henstock was the visitors third player - taking MacLennan to five but failing in the other two. Buttsbury "A" had enjoyed another resounding victory a week ealier against their Buttsbury "B" team with both George Pavitt and Rod MacLennan undefeated against Laurie Tunbridge, Graham Sturton and Paul Sturton - Tony Nettleingham was the "A" team's third player and collected one point in a five end win over Tunbridge - just edging the fifth end 12/10 - MacLennan/Pavitt took the doubles against the Sturton brothers which leaves the "B" team stranded at the bottom.
Week Commencing 21st/28th September Mountnessing "B" collected a 7 - 3 home win over Billericay "D" and now find themselves at the top of the table at this early stage - Dave Finlayson found his touch although Alan Wood made him work extremely hard with Wood taking a 2 - 1 lead before going under in five 3/11, 13/11, 11/7, 7/11, 5/11 Wood also lost another nail biting five ender against Jon Dyson (2 wins) - losing the fifth end 10/12 - so an unlucky night for Wood as he also lost to Mick Morris for that players only win - losing his other two to Bill Wall and Jon Fieldsend (in five). Writtle "A" were at home to Billericay Sports "C" and needed the doubles point to ensure a 6 - 4 victory - Mathew Brown continued his winning ways with an unbeaten performance against Linda Attridge, Pat White and Alf Fox - Dave Moles won twice with wins over Attridge - Moles looking down and out in the fifth end but managing to take the deciding fifth end - he also defeated Fox but lost to White - Writtle's third player Frank Neill was unable to put any points on the board but almost claimed victory over Attridge before losing the fifth end 10/12. Brentwood "B" entertained Buttsbury "A" and were losers 4 - 6 to Rod MacLennan (unbeaten), Sue Body and Tony Nettleingham with one win each - for Brentwood Brian Steward and Mary Nicholls defeated Nettleingham with Stan Kenner, although only showing one point for his efforts, took all three of the visitors to five ends - winning the first two ends against both MacLennan and Nettleingham but losing the next three - he managed to reverse the process against Body with Kenner coming from behind to record victory. Brentwood "B" then played an away match at Billericay Sports "D" and picked up a more than useful 7 - 3 away win with Bob Garson unbeaten and Brian Steward and Stan Kenner winning twice - they both gave best to Brian Cole (2 wins) who was perhaps a shade unfortunate to lose against Garson in a five end struggle - new signing Philip Terry gave a good account of himself - losing to Kenner 10/12 in the fifth end while Brian Wellman was unable to score
Week Commencing 14th September BAE Selex "C" have enjoyed a decent start to the season and their second win saw them pull off a 6 - 4 away win at Billericay Sports "C" - Paul Brown was unbeaten for the visitors with Gary Hartgrove winning twice and Kevin Smart unable to score - but the scoreline could well have been slightly more favourable to the home side had Linda Attridge been able to force home an advantage against Brown - in the second end a fortunate net/edge gave the visitor a 13/11 win despite Attridge holding a 10 - 8 lead and the same scoreline 10/8 favoured Attridge in the fifth end before Brown got over the finishing line at another 13/11 - Attridge won her other two games which included another five end win over Hartgrove. Alf Fox and Robert Kemp were Sport's other two players and each picked up one point defeating the luckless Smart. A 6 - 4 win was the final result in a Billericay "D" match at home to Billericay Sports "D" - Bill Wall was the key to the home side's win as he went unbeaten through the match - going to five ends with Malcolm Henstock but defeating both Brian Wellman and Mick Joslin in three ends. The away side's four points came via two wins for Wellman and one win each for Joslin over Jon Fieldsend in five 11/7, 9/11, 12/10, 9/11, 11/9 and for Henstock over Alan Wood.
Week Commencing 7th September Relegated Selex "C" look certain to be in the shake up to return to the top Division handing visitors Brentwood "B" a 10 - 0 defeat Paul Brown, Colin Clements and Alby Warner were too good for Colin Griffiths, Mary Nicholls and Dave Parker - with Parker coming close to collecting a point for the visitors - against Clements he took the first two ends, narrowly lost the third and then found the going tough in the last two losing 11/7, 11/2, 12/14, 5/11, 3/11. Also relegated last season and starting off the season with a 10 - 0 win are Mountnessing "B" with Dave Finlayson, Gordon Gatheral and Steve Nicholls taking all before them against Rod MacLennan, Sue Body and Tony Nettleingham - only the doubles going to a final fifth end. Another strong side Writtle "A" handed newly promoted Billericay "D" defeat 8 - 2 with both Mathew Brown and Frank Neill undefeated and Ian Hockley winning twice - losing to Graeme Dale in three, Keith Cullen and Alan Wood failed to score despite taking opponents to fifth ends. Billericay "D" entertained Buttsbury "C" and pulled off a 10 - 0 home win over Graham and Paul Sturton and Laurie Tunbridge (P/Up) - Malcolm Henstock, Mike Joslin and Brian Wellman were sound winners although Wellman had to recover from a 2 end deficit against Tonbridge before edging home in the fifth.
End of Season Summary The Billericay Sports "B" team of Brian Cole, Keith Adams, Bruce Kettle and Andrew Murray took the Divisional title and enjoyed a most successful season losing only two matches in the process - their four players were all featured in the top ten players in the Division with Adams holding top spot having lost only three games out of 47 played for 94% - two of these losses were reversed in the second half of the season and the third may well be reversed next season when Sports meet St. Joseph's in the Premier Division next season. St. Joseph's also enjoyed a most successful season and they likewise saw three of their players in the top ten with Robbie Burton having a healthy 91% success rate. It is several years since St. Joseph's were last in the top Division and it is hoped that their team can hold their own in a very competitive Division. Buttsbury "D" and Mountnessing "B" are holding the bottom two places but with doubts about the availability of some teams and players next season no firm commitment concerning the make up of the Division can or will be made until applications are received by 8th July 2009 - Buttsbury "C" gamely played on with only two players for many matches but with several young players from the Buttsbury club going to University doubts remain about the number of players Buttsbury will be able to call on next season and thus the number of teams they will be able to enter. A doubt which probably affects a number of teams/clubs.
