SEMI FINALS
Matches to be played week commencing 8th March 2010
BAE Selex "C" versus Mountnessing "B"
Billericay "D" versus Writtle "A"
SECOND ROUND
Matches to be played week commencing 14th December 2009
BAE Selex "C" 7 - 0 Billericay Sports "D"
An easy win for the top team with Paul Brown, Alby Warner and Gary Hartgrove easily defeating the Sports "D" team of Brian Cole, Mick Joslin and Malcolm Henstock - the last named being the only player to extend Alby Warner in their singles - Warner winning in five. The match was well and truly won when Selex "C" took the middle doubles in five although it seemingly an easy match given the scores the visitors did force the first three ties to four ends and the next two to five ends - so not a complete and easy success for Selex.
Mountnessing "A" 0 - 5 Billericay "D" - Walk Over
Mountnessing "B" versus Buttsbury "B"
Writtle "A" 5 - 3 Buttsbury "A"
Writtle "A" moved into the semi final and had their two doubles victories over Buttsbury "A" to thank for making further progress - Mathew Brown was defeated in both of his singles against George Pavitt in five 8/11, 11/6, 11/6, 7/11, 7/11 and against Rod MacLennan in four while Hector Rogers also lost a singles encounter to Pavitt in three but Frank Neill was the star player for Writtle with wins over MacLennan in four and against Sue Body in three - the home side did at one stage hold a 4 - 1 lead but were pegged back to 4 - 3 before Neill took them over the finishing line with his win over Body. The key to the result was the win for Rogers over Body which saw the visitor taking the first two ends but Rogers fighting back to complete a win in five 11/13, 7/11, 11/7, 11/4, 12/10

FIRST ROUND
Billericay Sports "C" 4 - 5 Mountnessing "B"
Brentwood "B" 2 - 5 Buttsbury "A"
Away wins for both high flying Mountnessing "B" and Buttsbury "A" saw them safely into the next round. Brentwood's Bob Garson, Colin Griffiths and Stan Kenner found George Pavitt, Rod MacLennan and Sue Body in top form and the visitors quickly ran out 5 - 2 away winners with the home side gaining a middle doubles win and success for Garson over MacLennan to show for their evenings efforts. The final singles was played which gave Kenner a five end win over Body but the match was effectively over at 5 - 2. The other away win was a much closer affair with Billericay Sports "C" just going down 4 - 5 to Mountnessing "B" - the home side could only blame themselves in the end as they took four of the six singles on offer but failed to win any of the three doubles available. For the winners Dave Finlayson defeated Dave Kirston in four and Mick Morris lost the first two ends against Pat White but managed to claim the last three and with the wins from the first two doubles (both in three) Mountnessing were one win away from winning with the score at 4 - 1 - Linda Attridge had beaten Steve Nicholls in three for the sides point. The second set of singles began with Kirston beating Nicholls, White defeating Finlayson in four and Attridge coming from a two end dedficit to defeat Morris - score now 4 - 4. Finlayson/Nicholls coasted home in three against Kirston/White to ensure victory for the visitors.

MATCHES TO BE PLAYED WEEK COMMENCING 5TH OCTOBER 2009

The 2008-2009 First Division Knock Out Cup Final was a one way traffic match with Billericay Sports "B" of Andrew Murray, Keith Adams and Bruce Kettle winning the first five games against Billericay Sports "C" to finish off a fine season which saw them take the Divisional Title, First Division Knock Out Champions and finalists in the Handicap Cup which they narrowly lost to BAE Selex "A" by 5 - 4. In this match the first doubles was taken by Adams/Kettle over White/Attridge in four ends and this four end trend was the pattern for the remaining four games with Fox taking the first end against Murray, Attridge the third end against Adams and in the final singles White winning the first end against Kettle. The middle doubles did at least see the home pair of Fox/Attridge force a five end victory for Murray/Kettle - Sports "B" were worthy winners and now look forward to the Premier Division next season.
Semi Final Week Commencing 9th March 2009
Mountnessing "B" 1 v 5 Billericay Sports "B"
An all Billericay Sports final is assured now that their "B" team of Keith Adams, Bruce Kettle and Andrew Murray have emerged as winners in their tie against a Mountnessing team of Mick Morris, Jon Dyson and Peter Hardiman. The first doubles and the first half singles all went to the visitors Sports "B" with only Morris able to take an end in his game with Murray. The home side briefly came back by taking the middle doubles in five but a singles win for Adams over Morris took the visitors through - Adams winning narrowly 3/11, 11/9, 17/15, 8/11, 11/7
Billericay Sports "C" 5 - 1 St. Joseph's
In what must be seen as an improbable result the home side Sports "C" reversed their previous weeks League match 7 - 3 defeat at the hands of St. Josephs - with Alf Fox in for Dave Kirston and St. Joseph's fielding three players who feature very highly in the top ten players of the division - the score might have been a little closer than the final result. The first doubles went to White/Attridge over Hickman/Carr in four ends - the first singles saw with Robbie Burton claiming a four end win over Fox - Linda Attridge then defeated Gary Carr in four and Pat White got the better of Sue Hickman in five - White recovering from a 2 - 1 deficit. The middle doubles of Fox/Attridge against Carr/Hickman also saw the home pair come from behind to win in five and with the score now an unlikely 4 - 1 to the home side Fox defeated Carr in three to complete the victory and record a 5 - 1 home win.

Writtle
“A” entertained Billericay Sports “C”
in a Knock Out Cup match on Monday
8th December with Mathew Brown, Hector Rogers and Andy Fox in their
side and might probably have been considered favourites against Pat White, Linda
Attridge and Malcolm Henstock. Rogers and Fox took the first doubles over Attridge and Henstock – losing
a two end lead in the process they finally crossed the line in the fifth end –
the first singles featured Brown against White which saw the home player win in
four – Attridge then defeated Fox in four followed
by a great singles between Rogers and Henstock –
the visitor won the first two ends – battled gamely in three and four but
finally went under in the fifth end 11/7, 11/9, 8/11, 7/11, 10/12 – Writtle
were now leading 3 – 1 and getting closer to the finishing line.
The middle doubles win for White and Henstock
over Brown and Fox in three brought the visitors another point followed by a game
of excellent table tennis with Brown up against Attridge
– and attacking his opponent throughout, but the visitor retrieving and
blocking everything that came her way remained calm and determined - making a
number of winners of her own. Excellent win for Attridge in five 11/5, 3/11, 11/13, 11/7, 11/8. White seemingly spurred on by the win in the
previous game then got the better of

“A” travelled to Buttsbury “D”
with probably their strongest side of the season so far – Mathew Brown,
Hector Rogers and Ian Hockley finished up winners against Graham Sturton, Sam Gilbert and Paul Sturton
– Buttsbury’s two wins coming with Paul
Sturton defeating Rogers in five 6/11, 11/9, 5/11, 11/5, 11/9
and Hockley in four 9/11, 11/8, 11/6, 11/7 –the young Buttsbury players took the lead in the first end of three
of the encounters but were unable to force home their advantage in any –
a little more luck might have seen a closer result than the 6 – 2 win for
Writtle.
With only two players Billericay Sports “D” were in difficulties
from the first service in their away match at Buttsbury
“C” – Mike Joslin was undefeated for
the visitors with wins over both David Ramsey in four ends and Caroline Cole in
three – Brian Wellman being unable to add to the score with Duncan Ramsey
defeating Wellman and thus securing victory.

Details for season 2007-8 listed below
The Final was played on Thursday 24th April 2008.
Billericay
Sports "C" favoured a more attacking line up and left ace defender and
Captain Brian Wellman on the substitutes bench with Mike Johnston, Mick Joslin and Brian Warren facing Colin Clements, Alby Warner and Trevor Ward. The match began
in good style for Sports "C" with Joslin/Warren
taking the first doubles over Warner/Ward - the home pairing having to come from
behind to force the game into a fifth end which they took 11/9, 7/11, 10/12, 11/6,
11/9.
Semi-final week commencing 10th March 2008
BAE "B" 5 - 0 Billericay Sports "D"
BAE "B" gained sweet revenge for losing to Billericay Sports "D" in the Handicap Cup Semi Final and took no time at all in disposing of their opponents in this Semi Final by 9.00 pm. The first doubles was a win in four for Alby Warner and Trevor Ward over Nigel Swanton and Malcolm Henstock. Colin Clements and Trevor Ward then won their singles encounters against Alf Fox and Nigel Swanton and it was left to Alby Warner to claim the third singles with a five end win over Malcolm Henstock. The match was well and truly over in the middle doubles with a win for Clements/Ward over Fox/Henstock for a 5 - 0 clear win.
Billericay
Sports "C" 5 - 3
Two doubles came to the aid of Billericay Sports "C" in their home match with St. Joseph's and coupled with a win for each of the home players meant that they recovered from a 2 - 1 deficit to record a 5 - 3 victory over their visitors. None of the ties went to a fifth end with only two being taken to four ends - Sue Hickman was St. Joseph's best player with two comfortable wins in three ends over Mike Johnstone and Brian Wellman - Gary Carr picked up a win over Brian Warren with Lindsey Phelps unable to score - losing to both Wellman and Warren. Both sides picked up three singles but it was in the two doubles that the home sides superiority came to the good - the first in four ends and the second much closer 12/10, 11/8, 15/13. The remaining semi final is scheduled for Thursday 20th March.
Second Round week commencing 10th December 2007
Billericay Sports "C" 5 - 1 Mountnessing "B"
Billericay
Sports "D" 5 - 3
Buttsbury "C" 0 v 5
Mountnessing "C" 0 - 5 BAE Selex "B"
Both Billericay Sports teams entered into the Semi-Finals with home victories - the Sports "C" team were victors over a strong Mountnessing "B" team of Mick Morris, Peter Hardiman and Chris Crooks with the 5 - 1 scoreline somewhat flattering the home team of Mike Johnston, Brian Wellman and Mike Joslin. The first two doubles were crucial to the final result as they both went to Sports "C" in five ends - in between Johnston over Morris in five and Wellman over Crooks in three gave the home side a 4 - 1 lead going into the final three singles, which were not needed as Johnston collected his second win of the match by defeating Hardiman - who had earlier collected the visitors one win by defeating Joslin in five ends. The other Sports team "D" however did not find the doubles coming to their assistance as their visitors Brentwood "B" won both of the early doubles - the middle doubles win coming after they had fought back from a 2 - 0 deficit - but it was in the singles that the Sports team were in command with Linda Murray and Nigel Swanton winning both of their singles and Malcolm Henstock collecting the vital match winning contest against Colin Griffiths - Brian Steward claimed Brentwood's only singles victory by defeating Henstock in five ends and having to win the last two ends to claim the victory but Brentwood failed on the night 3 - 5 - only three of the games went to five ends but Griffiths did his utmost against Swanton and forced the contest into a fifth end before losing out 8/11, 11/4, 0/11, 14/12, 10/12 most definitely a vital game that turned the match in Sport's favour. A comprehensive defeat for the home side of Mountnessing "C" by BAE Selex "B" with the score 5 - 0 in favour of the visitors. Brian Nicholson gave a good account of himself - against Alby Warner the encounter went to a fifth end with Nicholson having lost a 2 - 1 lead - he was also a trifle unfortunate against Gary Hartgrove 11/8, 10/12, 10/12, 8/11 - both Paul Singleton and Joan Donovan took ends from opponents with BAE's third player Chris Aukett joining in with a singles victory over Singleton.
No Preliminary Round - First Round in week commencing 8th October 2007
Draw as below
BAE Selex "B" 5 - 2 Writtle "A"
Billericay "D"
Buttsbury "B" 2 - 5 Mountnessing "B"
A home win for BAE Selex "B" thanks to singles wins for Colin Clements over Chris Hibbitt, Trevor Ward over Ian Hockley and Hibbitt and with BAE taking the first two doubles the match was concluded early at 5 - 2 in favour of BAE Selex "B". Their third player Chris Aukett took a two end lead over Dave Moles but found the final three ends going to his opponent who also collected a four end win over Clements for Writtle's two points. Buttsbury "B" entertained Mountnessing "B" and were beaten 5 - 2 by the visitors - James Kelly defeated both Jon Dyson and Peter Hardiman for Buttsbury's two wins but neither Tony Nettleingham or Davey Crook (P/Up) was able to add to the scoreline - John Hickey was Mountnessing's third player but as in so many matches the doubles victories were a key factor in the final result with the visitors winning both doubles played.
